I found an 08XB12X at a dealer near me (nearest anyway) Has the full luggage. 107 miles so not even broke in yet. They want $7800 for the bike. I called and they did have it at $11K called me back and said they would let her go for the $7800. They also just sold an 09 that was all stock no bags for $7900.

I've been looking for quite some time and have seen quite a few offers but this one appeals to me because of the "newness" of the bike and the bags.

Should I do it?

If it's a harley dealer, beat they up for a warranty : )

Other things I would try to get them to sweeten the deal with (for free):

comfort Kit installed! They might tell you about a reflash, but the 06 does not have a reflash for the comfort kit, only the 08 and up does.

replace spark plugs, and change both engine and trains oil. That bike has probably started many times and never warmed up.
Or try to get them to throw in the first service for free.

Keep in mind, if it has the original battery, it is around 5 years old already.

Sounds like a respectable price. Remember, the supply of new Xb12's is getting small.

@ Towpro - This is a 2008 and the oldest the battery could be is 2 years.

Battery is dead in the bike. So it will get a new battery. I'll try and get those extras. that'a a good idea!

Would an 07 with this be better of a deal than the 08?

have been toying with selling my 07' with around 2,000 miles on it. Can be bought with or without tons of accessories and extra parts or just as it came from the factory. Around $5,200 naked or $7400 with everything. Caribou Pelican type bags, 2 windshields, PIAA's, Touratech accessories(hand guard extensions, sidestand foot, GPS crossbar adapter), 2010 rear wheel and bearings, 08' top and bottom triple trees(with new fork lock pin), brand new in box, 2 new not mounted tires, new spare voltage regulator kit, new spare belt, new spare air filter, new spare clutch cable, new spare top front motor mount, both parts and service manuals, oil filters, extra fuse box setup, "comfort kit" installed, LED voltage meter, added SAE powers source for battery tender and/or GPS, ECM spy cable, and probably more. Dealer serviced at around 1200 miles.

For the list of accessories listed on the '07, I'd be really tempted to go that route if it's been well cared for. Is there any warranty left on the '07? If you add up the costs of all the accessories, it's a reasonable amount of cash........

Exactly what I was thinking. It's even low miles. I would have no idea on the cost of all the other stuff but I'm sure it's worth at least the 2200 price diff.

What is your reasoning to go from an 07 to an 08? Just curious

I've spoke to a few members and they seem to like their 07 better. I spoke to a guy who had an 06, 07 and 08. His 06 had electrical problems that were easily fixed the 08 was in the dealer a lot because it ran lean and the 07 was his favorite. You can also use ECM-spy on the 07 and not the 08 so you can tune it if you want which is a plus for me since I like to tinker. It's kind of a dilemma in a way because the 08 on the other hand had a good list of upgrades.

I've been on the search for a bike and I always comb through a mountain of bikes before I purchase. I've narrowed it down to the 07 or the 08. I started this topic because I just found that 08 at a dealer and wanted to get some badweb input. IN the meantime I had an e-mail from a guy about the 07 and it got me thinking. I like all the spare parts and the ability to tune it. It's got almost new tires and a full set of new tires along with it. The big pelican bags are great to.

I'm swayed towards the 07 for sure now.

I am sorry I misread your post above. I thought you currently owned this 07:

"have been toying with selling my 07' with around 2,000 miles on it. Can be bought with or without tons of accessories and extra parts or just as it came from the factory. Around $5,200 naked or $7400 with everything. I know see that it was a bike for sale. Go with either and enjoy it.

I can do 06 vs 09. 09 is a better bike hands down. Smoother engine, higher redline, much better fuel injection, improved steering lock, beefier bottom of the motor, improved oiling system, its a no brainer. They fixed everything that was wrong with the older models, without any negative side affects.

so froggy says go 08? It's funny because there are just as much people saying go to the 07 as I've posted this on the adv site also and just as many saying go 08. Almost split right down the middle!

My 06 hasn't moved an inch since last summer, yet I have put 7000 miles on my 09 1125CR and 800 miles on my 08 1125R and 7000 miles on my 03 Blast since then.

My 06 keeps getting lighter, I seem to keep taking parts off it and using them on the other 3. What sucks is the oil in it has only a few hundred miles on it, I wonder if its still good sitting that long.

Nothing a little seaffoam can't fix. I'd imagine the oil is still fine you'd just have some moisture build up.

On a side note, a lot of the stuff they supposedly "fixed" were never a real problem in the first place, I.E.
"higher redline, much better fuel injection, improved steering lock, beefier bottom of the motor, improved oiling system".
My '07 has never needed a TPS reset and it fuels great, steering lock is really not an issue once you get used to it, bottom end of motor wasn't weak as far as I know. Did the engine really need a better oiling system and a higher redline? Not for my use, that's for sure......is it nice to have? Sure....necessary? naaaa. (of course this is just an opinion from an normal rider). Plus, I've heard that the '07's get much better fuel economy with the old fuel injection. (I know mine gets 48-50 mpg on it's worst day)

Myth. I was getting similar numbers on a brand new 09 vs a 06 with 30k miles. Once broken in I suspect it would of been the same.

OK, glad that got cleared up. The last I had heard, somebody on the site here was tracking mileage between the different year bikes and the '08's were something like 10+mpg worse than the '06's and '07's.

Yea the early fuel maps got worse fuel economy, but once reflashed they should be roughly the same as the older bikes.

Reflashed, Froggy? With the 2010 Comfort Kit or some other? I bought my 08' XT in late Oct. and it has been a consistent 40 mpg over 2000 miles. I'm sure I have the stock set-up. Is there a re-flash that will improve mileage without hurting something else? Ths.

55 mpg? All the time or downhill only? lol J/K, but that is so far from my 'regular riding' experience I can only figure you got a very rare Uly. Do you have the original flash? Does anyone know if the original 08' and original 09' flashes are the same? Ths.

I'd say a real accurate count would be 40-45mph in town,50-55mph open road,65-70mph....The flash only affects the fan..
