maybe this is an easy question. Which is better. Do they basically perform the same but the jet hot coating is "prettier".

Speaking of wrapping, is it possible to do the wrap with the headers on the bike?
If so, what do you guys recommend in terms of brand and place to buy. Also please include the required length and the proper width.

I don't remember who but it has been done before but IMHO would be a MAJOR PITA. You can get it in either 1" or 2" widths. I opted for the 1" wide 100' long roll, I think the 1" wraps tighter with more overlap. I only ended up with approx. 3' left over. I posted it at one time so it's in the archives and I'll try to find it. It has pics and all. Wear good gloves and keep the stuff moist, don't make it sopping wet unless you don't care what kind of mess you make. I put mine in the bottom of a bucket and kept it just wet enough to keep the dust down and it seems to let it stretch a little then once it dries it draws tighter to the pipe then paint it with the silicone spray or some bbq paint.

Everyone has their, so here is mine:

One inch wrap ...

Windex bottle with water ...

Safety wire ...

Over lap 1/2 inch ...

Wrap so the wind can not pick up edge ...

Wrap the rear pipe first just before collector using safety wire to hold start and safety wire to hold finishing ...

Then front pipe at collector with safety to hold start and safety to hold finish ...

Then wrap safety wire over the over lap so that if someone tries to twist the wrap it is held better and stronger ...

Painted mine "RED" ...

I did both the coating wasn't enough so I did one inch wrap and paint it with header wrap paint works good now

I've had the wrap before, and now have coated headers - the ceramic coating has better insulating properties and is easier to maintain (no maintenance unless you want to keep it shiny - wrap will wear out though)

If you REALLY want to keep things cool, ceramic coat the headers inside and out, then wrap them, then spray the wrap with some high temp silicone coating. Who needs moderation? : D

well i guess I am just looking at the wrap to be temporary so maybe thats what I will go with. I would love to coat them but Id rather get a 1250 kit so the wrap will last one season and then i'll spring for ceramic coating.

I have ben considering just wrapping the rear header between the cylinder head and the junction with the front header to keep my right leg from getting so warm. Then polish the rest.

I wrapped my headers once. It was awful to install - the fibers get allllll over everything. Wear long sleeves, gloves, and a mask. I originally used the metal "tie-wraps" and ended up cutting them off and using safety wire like most people here are suggesting.

The wrap will smoke for quite a while. It stinks and looks funny. But the wrap does look good on the pipes. Unfortunately I picked the "tan" colored wrap and even though I coated it with the DEI high-temp spray.....it got so dirty. Particularly behind the front tire.

So I took the wrap off and took them to a shop. The guy sandblasted them and sprayed them with high-temp powdercoat. I choose black. It looks really sleek. I do kind of miss the look of wrap but the powdercoat is pretty sweet.
