well the poor old 9 finally needs some repair. started noticing a very little disconnected feeling when turning at slow speed. finally got around to looking at it the other day and the swingarm bearings are getting a little sloppy. ok no biggie. an hour or so and that can be done. so i start tearing it apart. notice that my oil pressure switch(looks like where its coming from) is leaking a little. no biggie. notice the rear shock of the race suspension i threw on a year or 2 ago is leaking. sucks but i have the stock stuff back home so i'll just swap it when i get back until i can have it rebuilt. with the belt and such off, i start spinning the idler pulley as im standing there contemplating what to do next. damnit it doesnt sound pretty. no slop, but will probably have some before long by the sounds of it. oh well, have one of those sitting back home too. and for some damn reason i started spinning the front drive pulley......... spun nice and smooth it seemed. should have stopped there. instead i started trying to wiggle it side to side up and down for whatever damn reason. it moves. not alot, but there is some play in it. so as far as i can figure the bearing is going out. CRAP! and to think that thing has had such an easy life.... i really dont want to split the cases just to pull that bearing out. i cant figure out why there is a clip holding it in, if it doesnt come out without splitting the cases and pushing it out. grrr. and if i have to split the cases i may as well do a rebuild and freshen everything up while im in there. ugh more money i dont have. funny though is that i am not whinning about it. if i look around this place lately, aparently i should be.... as ive always said and told erik at the last ride, i thought it would have blown up long ago! he just told me the other day he cant believe it broke since he knows how much ive babied it... lmao. he said the 9 finally got tired of having to man up to my riding. i thought that was funny. oh well, what to do now... | ||

Go project on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hell there isnt that much "project" stuff left to do on it! just the ztl2 and probably my chain conversion swingarm at some point... thought about the 12 crank and getting it machined down to lighten it alot, but i would more then likely need a remap. i will never again get it mapped as well as it is right now. the thing has had good luck holding its own against plenty of stuff the way it sits. stuff a scarf in there to tighten it up lol do you have an extra pink one??? and maybe some tassels for some extra ooomph  | ||

Tim, You may be able to just wrap the mainshaft with some teflon tape to take up the slop. It's worth a try. | ||

Whether you replace it with a used engine/tranny or rebuild it, get a FS belt tensioner; take a load off those bearings. | ||

Mine has decided to leak the same way. It looks like that sending unit has been weeping for a while and there is "wet" oil down low dripping on the muffler. It really doesn't look like the countershaft seal but what else could it be? | ||

im not sure what your talking about? the oil pressure switch and the mainshaft bearing are in 2 completely different spots...? and my mainshaft bearing is not leaking anything past the seal. the bearing just has some slop in it. | ||

My leak is behind and below the final drive pulley at the trans. | ||

You should measure the slop in the bearings to see if it is in spec. I am sure if it is excessive you could tell but it never hurts to be certain. |
