Several Pro riders are starting to schedule their practice time (Mid Carolina Speedway.org) getting ready for Daytona Short Track. Things should get pretty exciting around here for the next few weeks. |

oh, believe you me, KRSR can still bring it..... within mebbe the past 10 yrs there was a [50th?] birthday indoor short-track race honoring him @ SF Cow Palace's concrete bullring - NOBODY could stay ahead of Kenny out there, as he'd wheel em or stuff em or watever it took to cross that finish line 1st supreme skill, domination, mastery !! Well after 3 days of practice at Mid-Carolina Speedway (1/4 Dirt) The "big haulers" are headed to Savanah Ga.(1/2 mile) then on to Daytona. Hoping to catch most of them coming back for a race at Mid-Carolina Mar.6 (3.5K pro purse)plus other classes. |

Just a friendly heads-up that the title Speed Channel is using "Daytona Bike Week" isn't one that your DVR may recognize as one that needed to be recorded. For those of you that record and watch the races later, be sure to check that your DVR is set to record the event. |

Slamming Sammy Schools ‘Em With Pair of Daytona Short Track Wins The season opener of the 2011 AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Flat Track Championship series was a doubleheader, an event enjoying its second year at the demanding ‘new’ Daytona ¼-mile Flat Track - a modern arena facility parked outside NASCAR turns one and two at the famed International Speedway. What occurred there was perfection, doubled up, in the person of #7 Sammy Halbert – after strong qualifying sessions, he won pairs of heats, Dashes for Cash, and GN Singles final wins, which netted Halbert a 16-point lead over his title pursuers. Sammy displayed great speed with seemingly little effort each night, running flat out and feet-up while quickly owning the point for both 25-lap Nationals. The surface was technical, quite slick, and not native – rather, the dirt came from Municipal Stadium, the previous venue - a novel nod to maintaining this event’s continuity. Afterwards, Halbert explained that dialing-in his Woody Kyle Racing/Fredericktown Yamaha was simple, because he really knows the setup for this unusual track and can ride it flawlessly. Former Supermoto racer, #10 Johnny Lewis, twice placed 2nd behind Halbert for his best-ever flat track weekend, nicely kicking off his second year on the GNC trail. Newly-arrived rookie hot-shoe Brad Baker[Honda] and current GNC #1, Jake Johnson [Zanotti Honda], each led the races, eventually swapping 3rd & 4th over the two nights – Jake holeshotted the eighteen-rider field both nights! 2011 AMA Grand National Singles Daytona I Results: 1. Sammy Halbert (Yamaha) 2. Johnny Lewis (Honda) 3. Jake Johnson (Honda) 4. Brad Baker (Honda) 5. John Wood (Honda) 6. Matt Weidman (Honda) 7. Kenny Coolbeth (Kawasaki) 8. Jimmy Wood (Honda) 9. Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. (Kawasaki) 6. Matt Weidman (Honda) 7. Jared Mees (Honda) 8. Chad Cose (Honda) 9. Henry Wiles (Kawasaki) 10. Jeffrey Carver, Jr. (Yamaha) In 2nd-night news, Jeffery Carver [Yamaha], 2010 Pro Singles Champion, finishing 10th in his maiden GNSingles final. Afterwards, revelation Brad Baker unveiled his new Twins ride - the 100-bhp Lloyd Brothers Ducati. Going into this coming weekend's DuQuion, IL Short Track, Halbert enjoys his 16-marker lead over Lewis, ahead of the tie for third between Baker and defending #1, Johnson. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- Chris Carr – His Last Time at Daytona The legendary, Seven-time AMA Grand National Champion, Chris Carr, closes out his stellar career with this 2011 GNC season. Supportive fans packed the grandstands and pressed the fences to view Carr’s “Farewell to Flat Track Tour”. Though his Final finishes were 15th and 11th, Carr [Honda] also claimed a 3rd place in a Dash for Cash. Long a local favorite, the veteran racer led a vocal charge among the sold-out, diehard Daytona crowd for DMG/AMA Pro to construct an additional, half-mile dirt circuit on the DIS property. Evergreen Chris has a unique Daytona dirt history, having first competed at the old Memorial Stadium in 1984; then at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium; and this year’s final appearance at today’s DIS facility – Chris is the only competitor to have raced at the trio of Daytona dirt venues. |
