Well, after months of trying to find the right pieces, I finally got everything put back together. Had to cut off about an inch on each light bracket, redrill the holes, and grind off the back side to keep it from hitting the frame. Made the gauge brackets from scratch. They look like hell and need to be painted, but they work (why oh why didn't Buell make the gauge mounts symmetrical??? Hardest part of the whole project). I moved the gauges up and out about 1" respectively... I always hated how the clutch cable gets in the way of the buttons. But that forces the windscreen/headlight to be just a little higher on the forks than I like, so I may move it back down. I plan on scrapping the blinker stalks ASAP in favor of some aux lights I already have, but I wanted to get it back together in case it took me awhile to find some mirror-mounted LEDs I like. Also, I plan on adding some red stripes with silver pinstripes. Looks pretty good that way on a Photoshop I've been experimenting with. Ah crap. I have pics, but the free host is balking at the size, and I don't have anything on hand to cut them down. I'll try to get them up later. ~SM |

I see you have bar-ends on your bars, but would you maybe consider swapping these out for some bar-end LED indicators to solve that issue? Oberon makes cool ones. Just a thought. |

I use http://xat.com/jpegopt/index.html to make pics a bit easier to manage sizewise. Are you talking about a single headlamp like the Tubers have? Looking forward to seeing what you've got done so far. |

because there is a limit on the size of the picture so you do not use too much band with. The work around is using a image hosting website like photo bucket. The only problem with that is sometimes people cannot see the images at work and stuff to that effect like me for example. When I am at work our computers block any thing from image hosting sites and video hosting sites so I do not get to see pictures or videos that are posted on here at work if they use one of those web sites. |

Paint.net. Free, and works awesome. I can resize any photo, physical and file size in two steps. Takes me 30 seconds. I was pointed in that direction by Mr. Froggy himself. |

Nice! Details please. Flyscreen? Headlamp? You know the usual ?s. |

Flyscreen is a Puig Raptor, available from Newenough. It's tucked away in their hard parts section under the SV650 stuff. Headlamp is an actual M2 light I picked up from another Badwebber. The headlight brackets can be found several places. I saw them on Fly-n-Cycle, but after the intentional lack of info on the overpriced plastic brackets I bought there, I swore I wouldn't buy anything else from them. I wound up getting them from moto-madness.com. For anyone interested in doing the swap, they have a cheap-but-decent 7" headlight there as well. I bought one just in case the M2 didn't work out... the moto-madness one has a slightly smaller housing, and is a more brittle type of plastic (the M2 housing is like super-thick Rubbermaid or something). It doesn't have any threads for bolts either, you'd probably need to rig a bolt and nut with some rubber washers to mount it. If anyone wants my spare, PM me about it. Gauge brackets are just some stock metal I picked up at Home Depot. Used a cutoff wheel for the lengths and to score them for easier bending, then put 'em in a vice and smacked 'em with a rubber mallet to get the angles. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on February 24, 2010) |

Doesn't an R have all the fuses and whatnot located up front in the fairing? Might be a little tight.... ~SM |

Swordsman, yes they are. ECM is in the front too, right behind the headlights. |

I take it that means its not an option (at least without a huge amount of work)? |

Xbmacon, you might be able to pull it off, but you'd have to come up with a lot of extra brackets. There's a decent amount of space behind this fairing (you can see in the close up side pic). I don't know how much space the R equipment takes up. If the ECM itself is involved, I don't know that I would trust the Puig to protect it from the weather, since it's so open on the sides. Thanks again to those who have chimed in since! ~SM |
