A little birdy dropped a hint in my ear that the 03 Blast engine has some differences in the bottom end that result in a sturdier and more rev-friendly package. Any non-me anons care to spill the beans on this? |

Don't know what little birdie told you that ? From what I know, the Blast hasn't had any major motor changes for strength. They have attacked a few areas where they had oil leaks (like the primary chaincase inspection cover, now alum. instead of plastic and new gasket), the new rocker box gaskets came out in late 2002, and the carb has been rejetted richer. The only NEWs I've just seen is the NEW Factory Racing parts for the motor, I.E.- The Dual outlet Ceramic coated Exhaust system and racing cams(although the same specs as the mild Andrews B50 cams). The Blast motor seemed pretty stout from the getgo, and I believe the XB9 crankcase is based on it, or they were developed together...? So no, I never heard a thing, but to me the crank and cases seemed overbuilt from the first year? |

Yup. The lower end bearings were beefed up ala XB9R. Check the differences in the 02/03 parts books. It's a good thing! |

Can the 2003 parts be put on an 02 without modification? Did we miss anything anonymous? |

Hey Matty- I think I've resolved the barrier to my project. I may also want to go with the 03 case & whatever else is different while I'm at it. Do you know how gettable these parts are? Do the old case halves need to be turned in to get new ones? I think I'm gonna come in and pick up an 03 parts book... -Saro |

Saro, the conclusion was that the only real lowe end difference is the bearings, right? The cases are the same, it's just a bearing swap-out?? James |

James- That's what I understand. I think Matty looked up part numbers in the parts books. I'm headed down there this afternoon to get Nic's parts - so if he hasn't posted here, I'll verify then. Need anything from Glendale? -Saro |

According to my parts books, it's all the same for '03 ... flywheel assembly 23921-00Y sprocket shaft bearing assembly 24729-74 pinion bearing selection 24647/50/59/60-87 (there are 4 different sizes) I can't find any part numbers on those pages that are newer than -00 at all. I'm a little surprised because all the other '03 models got new connecting rods, apparently they skipped over the Blast. Saro, I've got a partial engine I'll sell you if you're interested. Cases (bored to accept 3-13/16 cylinder), gearbox, flywheel assembly, assembled. Needs some of the peripheral stuff. |

Aaron- Your timing SUCKS! That's be absolutely spankingly PERFECT except for some, uh, reality based diversions we're currently experiencing. Kinda why you haven't heard from me regarding the pushrods, tubes, etc... Lemme see what's shakin' on my end here - though I'm SURE another BadWebber would love to jump on that! -Saro |
