I just recently bought another 02 X1W and upon inspection of the muffler have found out that it contains no internals at all. I can probably build one but would rather have the actual piece that it comes with.The can and tip all look in good shape,just need the guts if anyone can help? | ||

Depending on the muffler I don't think there's much to the internals. Just a perforated pipe and some packing. There were 2 'race' mufflers - one came with a new header, rivets together, has a straight inlet and 90 degree elbow outlet and has the perf pipe and packing. The other was a slip-on to a stock header (elbow on muffler, not on header), had a bolt-on endcap, angled outlet, and was a Supertrapp internal-disc design. If you have the true "race" muffler that came with the header...get some perforated pipe, attach it to the outlet side, stuff the rest of that bad boy with stainless steel wool, rivet it back together and go ride  | ||

The perforated tube in mine broke. So I made one out of thicker aluminum tubing.    This one will never break | ||

Thanks for the information. Mine is apparently the Supertrap version because it has the elbow attached to the stock header. It looks as though I could just install a perforated pipe with steel wool as you have done.Did Supertrap have disc that went in the can?This thing has the elbow on it that bolts to the can and I believe it is stainless steel with Pro-Series stamped on it. It sure sounds good as is but LOUD! | ||

If you take the outer endcap (outlet) off the muffler and look in, there should be a spot with six screw holes spaced around it - those are the holes for the screws that held the discs in. If you have that setup...you should be able to get a disc and screw kit from 'trapp and stack away to your ears' (and power's) content! More discs = more noise = more flow = less backpressure which can = a midrange flatspot. Fewer discs = less noise = more backpressure. | ||

Actually mine doesn't have the plate in it.I just finished making a perforated pipe out of a piece of 2-1/2'' exhaust pipe that was slightly flared at the inlet end to go over the pipe inlet pipe in the can.The other end fits neatly into a tapered section on the endcap which has three 1/4''-20 allen panhead screws holding it in. Nothing looks as though it has been modified other than removing the center pipe. I was actually going to wrap mine with fiberglass,but I would imagine that the steel wool will last longer. Thanks for the info though. |
