Anyone who knows where to buy black steel bolts online? I need some black steel dome heads M6x15mm-1.0 bolts. Tried tastynuts.com already but they only have the blacks in aluminum and i need steel. | ||

Powder coat won't stick to steel over the long term, I don't think. ??? You know, I get regular grade-8 oxide finish at my local "premium" hardware store. They are "flat black", and being grade 8 are suitable for motorcycle applications. If you are looking for "shiny black", just sand the heads and put a coat of a quality spray enamel on them. I do exactly this with my wheel weights for balancing and it's a lot less expensive than buying the pre-finished ones, yet I can't tell the difference. | ||

Yep on the Grade 9 - hit up Lowes. If you have a Fastenal in your area, they're a good resource for ALL fasteners but you might have to buy a box. Don't think they sell individual small fasteners. http://www.fastenal.com | ||

Powder coated my steel frame rail buggy and its been on there for about ten years.. It get the off road treatment a lot and the powder coat still perfect..  | ||

I would get the black oxide bolts and powder coat them. They will last much longer than most plating you can get for general bolts. The Eastwood Hot Coat kit with powder ($100ish) with a small toaster oven I picked up at a thrift store for $3. This combo is a great for doing bike hardware. | ||

Ohhhh! Powder kit with a small toaster oven in the garage... never thought about that, I was always picturing a second hand house oven (which would take up too much space). Interesting! | ||

Amen on Fastenal - Lowes has them, but they will run you at least a buck or two each. If you need more than 10 or 15, buy a bag of 100 from fastenal for around $0.25 apiece. Bought lots of stainless fasteners for a project bike and Fastenal was the way to go. | ||
