I finally got around to getting a set of stands for my 08 1125r.I was really ichy to find a way to lift this beast up.I could of easily grooved my axle sliders to lift my r but I didnt want to do that.I wanted spools. Drilling the spools was kind of tricky.I wanted to keep them low like the 09s .But when I investigated the area I wanted I found casting gussets for the swingarm and caliper bracket were in the way .So I had to move it forward some and 1/2 inch up from the bottom I drilled.This also ensures that the spools wont brake in a event of a slideout.I do wish my stand had a little height adjustment on them.I only have 5/8 inch clearance from the bottom of the tire to the ground . I slide a 5/8" machinist parallel under the tire. I did take the tire off to see if it would work.I was sweating bullets for a moment.It worked whew.Well now my jealousy over the 09 spools are gone and my 08 is equipped with double lipped spools .Yeah and best of all my custom sliders clear nicely. I purchased my stands from mjmotogear.com My friend and I purchased two pairs shipped to us for 204.00 front and rear.But The price was evident in fitment.I had to pull the two legs apart slightly to get the hooks to reach my custom spools.I believed it had to be at least 16" wide .The stands came in at 14.5.Has anyone had to do stretch their stands arms out to get the fit?I did notice the bends werent square at the wheels maybe thats why?They were bowed inward slightly. And do some stands have height adjustment? Any input would be great.I might even make a adjustable bracket.Im so happy I have a great pair of spools that are custom.Custom stuff is the best when good thinking is used.I like to do things people cant even imagine doing and pull through with great results.Ive seen spools that require drilling at the body line on the arm but i believe its to far out and my sliders would barely clear.Mine are low and forward some and no interference is evident with my spools.I'm so happy with the results.I just wish the stands were better.But what do you expect for 102.00 to my door for a pair.     | ||

Blackflash, I've got the same stands - knew I would have to open the rear up a bit to clear my 09' swingarm b/4 ordering, but figured the price was good and they would be a good place to start even requiring modifications. Am considering adding a spreader between the bolted connections on the stand to maintain width (will clear tire with my spool locations - am not sure about yours). Also think I'll tweek the tops of the saddles out some and plastic coat to protect swingarm when placing. Front is good, but wants to rub fender when placing - trimming 1/2" off lift pin should cure that. | ||

I just measure my buddys 01 r1 in the garage.he wreck it and I'll be painting it shortly. He will only have 1.25 off the ground.I think the stand design has some flaws.LOL But they are cheap | ||

I also noticed that one of the holes drilled for the sliding adjustable bracket was welded crooked .  | ||

I bought an aluminum rear stand from Harbor Freight Tools. Its a great looking stand and very sturdy but I am going to have to spread it about an inch for it to clear my swing arm. It may be difficult as it is constructed with square tubing. Backflash: It should be easy to adjust the height on that stand. Just find some tubing that's just large enough to slide over the existing tubing. Drill and thread the top for the spool lifts. You could even drill holes every half inch or so on the tubing and use a pin through the existing hole for the spool lifts so you could literally adjust the height. Would be great in the event of working on other brand bikes or perhaps needing the wheel at different heights for various projects. | ||

Sportbikermed What was the height of your stand .Measure off the floor to the craddle.Mine is 13.5 High. I plan on welding spacer in. I guess I'll make a set on the lathe then cut the stand tubes then insert the sleeve/spacer to raise to get it up some .I just feel like I shouldn't have to do that.Oh well These 08 spools I made fit perfect. The Track Time stand that i got at Cycle Gear ($119) works with no bending. Unfortunately the adjustment won't go narrow enough to lift the front too. I have to use my scary crappy old one for my tubers. I need to get of my ass and make the needed pieces so I don't have to switch stands. | ||

I had it chemically stripped in a acid tank just for powdercoating.It took 6 days to strip.The stripper guy told me it only takes 1-2 days usually .He was shocked how this stuff took so long to strip.He believed it was a heat powdercoating and not the conventional type.He also said it came off in three coats.Usually it just strips he said but on my wheels,swingarm and other stuff he actually had to turn up the heat in the acid tank so the acid would eat in better.I tried sanding it but the coating was too much work.Overall where im getting at is dont start sanding your parts thinking you'll get to bare metal and be happy .It will take you days.LOL | ||

Has anyone have their measurements off hand from the floor to the lift cradle?I would like some data for research. | ||

Backflash My stand is 12.5" from floor to cradle. It gives my tires about an inch clearance but I'm using the DHM slotted axle sliders. BTW the brand of mine is Haul Master. Go to www.harborfreight.com and search for "Haul Master". They have several products for motorcycles at a great cost. Two different swingarm lifts. One is $40 and one is $50. I got the $50 one but looking at them now the $40 one may work better because it would be easier to bend to the correct width. | ||

If anyone has some measurements of the their stands from the ground to the cradle I could really use the info. | ||

Pit Bull finally made a stand for the 08's that do not use a swingarm spools. Just cradles the swingarm. Finally they figured it out. | ||

Red, I had those Pit Bulls back in '08. Actually, I don't think they're as good as spool stands. | ||

I searched for them a year ago on their website and did not find it till a month ago. I don't have an opinion just yet, just think its a cool idea. I guess once I mess with it I will see if I like it. The reason I got it was I didnt really feel like drilling my swingarm. |
