I have read in numerous places that the engine sprocket bolt torque specs were high. For some reason I had it inside my head that it was 210+ ft lbs. In the service manual it states that it is 165 ft lbs. Am I missing something? Also, I have been attempting to search all day. However, the search function appears to be down. | ||

What service manual are you reading it out of? The older ones are wrong, you should use 240-260 ft. lbs. | ||

Im sorry it is a 2009 and the manual was just purchased in september of 2009. I have seen the xb9-xb12 gearing swap tutorial, and mine appears to be different than the one shown in the pictures. Mine just appears to be a bolt. I went to my local HD service area on a whim and they stated that i should just follow the manual. | ||

I have not been inside the 2009's but I believe the older ones had a shaft and nut. If yours has a bolt then it appears they have changed it somewhere along the way and the higher torque spec. may not be applicable to your year/model. | ||

They did change the primary chain and sprockets for 2008, perhaps that new bolt is part of the setup. | ||

So I am going to leave it at the spec in the book and keep an eye out for it loosening. Unless I hear otherwise. | ||
