Good Afternoon all! Long time reader, first time poster! Got an 1125CR back in Oct. Starting around 300 mi the weep hole on the Water Pump housing has been exhibiting intermittent leakage, usually after the bike has been shutdown for a couple moments (right around when the fans kick off). Been back and forth to the dealer, over the last few MONTHS! (almost burned through 6mo worth of insurance and been in the shop pretty much whole time). This last time they said it was done only to have it leaking in the parking lot. The service mgr. states that a "Buell engineer" told him this is a known occurrence and their is a kit around somewhere to fix this (an official Buell/HD service kit). I have been searching around for months and do not see very many occurrences of this problem... Are they blowing smoke to give them time to compensate for bad techs or are they correct.

Find another dealer. It's not a super common problem, although seals will wear out. It's not normal to have that happen within the first 300 miles though.

Can you post a picture of where this leak is coming from?

Been to two dealers... First was where I bought it... Golden Gate Harley in Corte Madera (just north of SF) Don't get me started...
(too late)
Bike delivered with 100 mi already on the clock. When asked why they said it was for ride tests. Seemed excessive, asked if it was a demo unit, assured that it was not, I think they are liars.
Notice bike sprays oil all over front of bike. Was told that this is not a problem. Start my own inspection. Find broken fasteners on air box. Denied they were the source of the problem, denied my warranty claim. Find PCV not connected to Air box... Hmm maybe that is where oil is coming from (ya think!!!!?)
Gouge in front rim. They admit this was there mistake, replace rim (why they ever put it on a tire changer is beyond me)
Tell me they cannot fix water pump due to backlog of service and inability to work on the Helicon "cause no one here has ever taken one apart" advise me to seek a different dealer (why they sell Buells is beyond me. These guys were the worst, will never do business with them again, hope they fold)
Find Rocklin HD, they make everything right, fix everything, great staff, great people, owner went out of his way to meet up with me after I relay my situation to service mgr.
Tech says pump housing was "loose" give bike back, still leaks. Take bike back, Rocklin HD no more, consolidated into Folsom HD. Same general experience, same owner good people etc... Tech again miss diagnoses problem, replaces crush washer on bottom of pump housing (drain point). Still leaking in their parking lot when I come to pick it up. They swear to make it right, service mgr. runs over while still on phone says he is speaking with Buell Engineer, states that this is a known issue with late 08's an dearly 09's where water seal not getting lubrication due to oil galley not present or impinged somehow, overheats seal induces seal failure (oil galley for a wet seal??? seems odd to say the least). Says kit for fix should be on the way, replaces pretty much the entire right side of motor (between block and housing... will post up a scan of effected parts tonight as well as exact point of leakage... But if you have one of these the weep hole is on the back side of the pump housing @ 9 oclock if you are looking at the housing from the side of the bike).
So it looks like I will finally get the fix, but this seems all pretty fishy with contradicting items and was wondering if anyone has heard anything like this circulating around.

Mine was doing the same thing at 600 mi.

I parked it for the winter and will check it next spring. If it's still going on, it will get warrantied.

mine (2008)did it 1 1/2 years ago coming back from the MotoGp at Indy on my last gas stop 30 miles from the house. stopped for gas, parked and went in to use the facility and when i came out- lots of fluid all over the ground. poured more water into the radiator and watched it come out of the weep hole. water pump replaced under warranty. took a couple weeks waiting for parts, i rode the s1.
glad it happened close to home on the backside of a 2600 mile run. haven't had any additional issue and did the same trip last year.
good luck,
tim

My '08 is leaking from the witness (wetness) drilling as well. Can anyone confirm that there is an upgrade kit to sort the problem?
I've been informed by a Tech expert in the UK that the 2010 Helicons have a different components:
Q0428.3AM Shaft assembly
Q0430.3AM Oil seal
Q0431.3AM Rotary seal

Will these 2010 retro fit into the '08 crankcases to provide a permanent cure if there is no upgraded kit for the '08 bikes?

My Warranty period is running out

Go to another dealer and on the way stop at the county small claims court if you don't have lemon law and sue them for the price of the bike you probably won't win but it costs like $50 to do and if you win maybe they will learn there lesson.

I don't really consider my 1125 a 'Lemon' though, in fact it's a bloody good bike. My dealer has also bent over backwards to ensure I have had the best in upgrades, I think I was the first one ever to have the 2010 clutch revision (parts went straight from Rotax to my dealer) and I also got a replacement IC that doesn't mist up. I own 7 Buells and I bought my 1125 (the first privately owned in Europe) with my eyes open. If they'd left production for another year to iron out production revisions I'd have missed out on a years riding it - the price was worth paying.
I was wondering if these upgrades were possible on '08 cases because the '10 cases are different. Anyone in the US done it?

Yeah my FZ has been getting all the miles since I bought the Buell (kinda wish I had kept the 954...) Whenever they get it back to me I will inquire as to the specifics on the "kit" in question. Happy and sad to see I am not the only one... I wonder how many people have this occurring and are unaware

Apparently this kit consists of;
Thrust washer
Impellor shaft
oil seal
rotary seal

......and surprisingly, a clutch cover?

My dealer couldn't find much information about this, so if anyone can confirm the contents of this kit, then we'll be very grateful.

Make sure you're sitting down when you ask about the price of the kit

Yep. I asked the dealer what was in the R1022.1AM kit and he told me this is what he 'thought' was in the kit.

Crowley posted the contents of R1022.1AM, yes.
The impeller shaft also has the impeller but that's what I got for a "kit breakdown" at H-Dnet.
Retail is around $400 because of the large piece(cover).
It's the "clutch cover" that includes the oil dipstick hole, not the smaller round one with the puck in the center.

Of note, it is on backorder right now.

The MoFuCo look after well with your prices.
In the UK, that kit is WELL OVER 900 USD

So does it still weep? I assume the hole is there for a reason, but it seems strange that it leaks coolant. I just looked at mine and it's not leaking, but it clearly has been. I have a nice white trail going down the case cover.

To keep coolant from getting in the oil when it leaks by the seal. It will weep to the outside.
