Those of you with aftermarket pipes on the 1125s, are you getting a lot of noise inside the helmet? I have a Latus on my XB and I have to use earplugs even for short jaunts. I love the sound but the drone in my helmet at freeway speeds is unbearable. Ive made some inserts for the pipe that knock it down pretty good but I vowed not to do this to my 1125. |

I always wear ear plugs, regardless of the distance to ride. Wind noise will do damage just as fast as the loud exhaust, but it won't seem like it until it's too late. I guess some pipes just hit the wrong frequency that causes that "drone" and bothers some people. I definitely like the louder pipe myself, but at the same time, I'd like to be able to hear when I'm 80. |

I always wear ear plugs unless I know I won't be going over 30mph. The wind noise will make you go deaf. I don't have the stats handy of how long and how fast before damage occurs, but it is a lot sooner than you think. Some good reading here: http://www.webbikeworld.com/Earplugs/earplugs.htm As for helmet drone, I think that will vary based on the pipe, helmet, and RPM. |

Wind noise LOL! I cannot hear any of that on my XB. I do wear ear plugs most everywhere except when I ride around town with my friends. Too much talking at the stoplights and such. |

I can verify hearing damage from only a 12 hour ride with no ear plugs (from just outside Sturgis to Milwaukee, 940 miles in just under 12 hours actually....). Have had ringing in my ears ever since (yes, I was wearing a full face helmet). So wear your hearing protection you guys. Trust me, it gets old after a few years...... There are lots of factors to tske into consideration (mentioned previously) my Schuberth helmet pretty much negates the need for ear plugs, it's amazingly quiet.. Unfortunately it's quiet because it squeezes my ear tubes closed and is agony after an hour.. I was almost crying when I got to Holland after 5 hours in the saddle... I bought an HJC carbon in a shop in Germany for the rest of the trip and reverted to earplugs.. |
