I have a theft error after changing my ECM but have re-installed the stocker. Seemed all right this morning with full display and readouts, and now time to ride but THEFT ERROR. Dash illuminated w/theft error, NO OTHER FUNCTIONS. I have never entered a theft code. Cannot enter toggle, mode or the setup menu. Tried disconnecting the battery for a few seconds with no help. Any suggestions? Bob |

The service manual mentions how to clear that. Going from emmory it was leaving the battery disconnected for a longer period of time, but I don't have the book with me right now. I'll check it later if nobody else answers. |

We get theft error a lot if system voltage is very low. Put it on a tender overnight and see if that helps. |

An intermittent short in the harness (hopefully this is NOT your issue) will also throw a theft error. Probably not the case as your original ECM didn't have this problem, right? |

Bob Disconnect the terminating resistor (2pin connector) hanging by the side of the ecm. Turn on the ignition. If the code clear's then the resistor is bad |

Thanks to all who sent advice. It was either putting the stock ECM back on the bike or something else but I put the Race ECM back on leaving the battery disconnected for a short time (about 5 minutes). Problem solved with advice from the great guys at High Country HD/Buell service who suggested just that. Wondering about the ability to switch them back and forth though with this experience I had but no need too right now. Write-up in My SOTP impressions. Bob |
