How many of you took your license test on your XB (or any Buell for that matter)? I have been told that it is extremely difficult to pass the test on a sportbike. I have to take it on Wed. and was just curious. This is my second summer on the Bolt so I am pretty comfortable on it and feel that I will pass. Just looking for some re-assurance.

P.S.
Will my bike pass the pre-test inspection with the race kit?

I took mine on a 74 CB550. Scared the hell out of the testing official.

Went thru MSF class, so I didn't have to take the test at the DMV. The test in class was on a Blast though. And I'll bet the MSF test was more extensive than the state exam.

Jeremy,
If you are comfortable/competent on the bike it should be no problem.

Probably better to use your bike than someone else's that might seem to be easier but you are unfamiliar with.

That's what I was thinking. I am just nervous because my temps run out at the end of the month so if I don't pass today, I will have to buy another permit package, take the written test again, and then go take this test. A bunch of screwing around that I could do without. Well I am off to take it now (in the rain). Here goes..................

Good Luck.

One thing to remember, don't rely on your front brakes for slow manuevers...seems like common sense, but I took my test with someone who dropped his bike going through the cones, and he tapped his front brakes and dropped it. I told him to use his rear brake for the slow stuff, and he passed no problem.

I was in the same situation as you when I took my test. It didn't turn out half as bad as I built it up in my mind. Let us know how it goes.

Unfortunately I rode all the way up there on the wet streets and they had cancelled it. I am scheduled to take it this weds. again. Hopefully it will be dry!

I would think if you have been riding the XB9R for 2 summers, a motorcycle safety test would be a breeze. The XB with its short wheel base should make it a little easier.

Yes the short wheel-base helps but the bike doesn't turn very sharp at low speeds.

When in a slow turn, use your rear brake for stability. I don't mean mashing it down, but just a little rear brake while going through cones or a tight figure 8 and you should be fine. Try it out before your test and see to what degree you have to brake for stability. Hope that helps!

Well, I took and passed the test this morning. Somehow I managed to get a 100%. Out of the 8 bikes in my group, only 2 of us passed. There were 5 sportbikes and 3 cruisers. I was the only sportbike to pass. My bike was getting alot of attention. Even the instructor at one point said "nice bike". I am just glad to be done with it, FINALLY!

I took my test on my Blast (incredibly good low speed maneuverability on that little thing). I had owned the Firebolt for all of two weeks when I took the road test. Recently I took a friend to take his, with him on my Blast and me on the Firebolt. After he'd finished I decided to run through it on the 'bolt and surprised myself by actually getting through it. I do not do well at low speeds with this bike, chalk it up to whatever you want. Congratulations, American!
