Did the triple clamps change to black in '09 or '10. What are the part numbers of the black trees? |

Will the black trees for the X interchange with the silver trees for the '08+ models? The black trees look a little better for a conversion on an '06 or '07 X at $18 less per unit, if they are the same other than color. Might be a subtle custom option that few others might have. |

I think the newer trees necessitate a change to the lock pin - they include the increased steering sweep IIRC (and technically the bikes also had offset axles to compensate). There are folks who have done the swap. For my money...powdercoating is cheaper and easier. Of course...my Uly is so filthy most of the time, nobody can tell what color bits are anyway lol. |

Rat, the ignition part number is different on the 08 Uly's, probably to incorporate the longer pin. I couldn't find it as a separate number. |

Weird. Y0724.1AD ("ignition switch with key") comes up under my '08 lookup. If I click on the "where used" tab...it shows a boatload of Buells, all the way back to '05 (and including the entire life of the Uly). Same number shows up if I search the '06 catalog (electronic). |

Y0724.3AK IGNITION SWITCH W/KEY Retail Price:$104.00 That has the 08 Uly code. The .1AD is a 03 9S code, so all XB lightnings, plus 43mm Ulys + 1125CR. (Message edited by froggy on February 09, 2010) |

Yep, found it. Pin must be part of the assembly...just as stated. I'll go back to my corner and be quiet now... |

If you are not looking to upgrade to the increased sweep, then you can just have your parts powdercoated...like I did a couple years ago.

Max, that is one sharp looking 12X! I love that Racing Red color and your bike has lots of it. Really stands out! What kind of paint did you use on the saddlebag pieces? I am thinking about doing the same with my XT. Thanks. Sorry, I am not trying to hi-jack this thread. |

I had our friend Vern (Etennuly) do the color matching and painting of the saddlebags (and a couple other items), and had a local powdercoat business do the fork parts (and other metal items). |

I have an '06 X and want to upgrade for the increased steering sweep. I have a custom (Tootal) steering lock pin already. I was surprised to see the price difference on the black '10 X trees coming in at $36 less than the '08+ silvers. I kind of like the black anyway, and was wanting to make sure the color is the only difference between the two. |

Froggy - If my limited understanding of the Buell parts numbering system is correct, for the '08+ models you show above, the base part number is the same for upper and lower trees. The only difference is the last 2 or 3 letters on the part number, which in this case indicates a color difference only? YBD is silver and ZT is black? Do I pass or fail? |

You pass Part numbers break down like this: First character is part type. M is body parts, G is belts wheels sprockets and related, Y is electrical, L is structural like frames, P is suspension related. There is more, most of the alphabet is used. Next is a 4 digit numerical code, this is the actual part number. I haven't found any real rhyme or reasons with this yet, but you can change one number and alter an item. For example, with the airbox covers, M1224 is the standard covers, M2224 is no decals, and there is also M3224 which I believe is no decals, but X-guard. The last digit can be changed for thing where you have multiple on the same bike, like footpegs. N0552 is one footpeg, while N0553 is another. Then if you change it to N0554 or N0555, you got heel guards. N0550 is the footpeg mount. Starting to get an idea? The first 5 characters combined seem to stay together for a type of part regardless of model. All Buell belts are G0500. All of M1600 are windscreens. After the period, the first 3 characters are a year and model code. First is a number (1-8) for years in production, followed by 2 letter model code. 1AK is 06 Uly, 2AK is 07 Uly, and so on. 1AT is 09 1125CR being that was the first year of that. After the model code, we have a revision code if applicable, and its usually an "A". After that is the color code, which seems to vary from 2 to 3 characters. MAW is Arctic White, MBX is Hero Blue. So going back to your question, J0105 is indeed the upper triple tree code, as all upper trees regardless of Blast or 1125 have that, the way you tell whats what is after the period. 1AK means it is off an 06 Uly, 3AK means 3rd year production, so 08. YBD and ZT are the color codes I have gotten to the point, I can actually guess part numbers off the top of my head, and usually I am right. |
