The gas tank is kinda loose on my 00 M2. I've had this bike since it was new and the tank seems to get looser and looser every year. When I'm sitting on the bike I can grab the sides of the tank and rock it from side to side about 3/8". It buzzes like mad at idle. Here's a photo of the front of the frame. Does anything look missing?
Here's a close up of the rubber cushion on the left side. Note how the paint is worn off on the frame tube. Also the top of the horn bracket is buzzing on the underside of the tank.
Here's a shot of the bottom of the tank where it rubs on the frame and on the horn bracket.
and here is a photo of the tank's front tab.
Anyone else have this kind of issue? Do you see anything that is wrong or out of place? How can I tighten up this assembly? |

The tank on my S3 buzzed/danced and it drove me nuts. I used a short piece of 1/4" fuel hose and split it and glued it to the rod the front tank hook goes under. Tank hasn't moved since. My guess is with the tank being plastic the hook stretches over time. I see you have a Stenzel brace, notice any abnormal engine vibe's with it? |

The tank should have some rubber strips lining where it contacts the frame. Yours have probably fallen off over time. Get some thin rubber and glue it back on and you should be good to go. |

Everything is there that needs to be. The only issue is that the tank is plastic, it tends to change shape over time and it may have been 'out of shape' from the mold... Instead of those rubber bumpers, what I did was get some self adhesive rubber truck cap rubber gasket along the top frame rails. It was self adhesive and thick, kind of like this http://www.cargogear.com/OneItemInfo.aspx?partnum= MPULTTS |

Like Jramsey said, place a piece of thin 1/4" hose (not heavy reinforced fuel line), split lengthwise and held with a dab of silicone, onto that cross-rod that holds the tang on the front of the tank. I have had several of my bikes that made such an irritating rattling noise from the tank vibrating. The 1/4" hose took care of it. |

thanks all for the suggestions. I'll try the 1/4" hose and some foam cushions between tank and frame. Jramsey - have not noticed any changes with the Stenzel brace. Although I've had it for a few years and I installed it when I had the top end apart and did XB breathers at the same time. the bike was apart for about 2 months so it may be different and I just didn't notice. It's been running great lately. |

My method for silencing the damn tank is three strips of self-adhesive velcro strips. |

Is foam going to hold up near that much heat? Will it melt or catch fire? |

Natexlh1000 has the right idea, I also used velcro adhesive strips. I would put the velcro right on those rub spots. I also found that i could use the Velcro to stop the wind screen from vibrating against the dash....It also helped the dash from flopping around like a fish! I Let my friend use my fuel cell to trouble shoot his bike problem. and the fuel cell was velcroed so damn well i had a heck of a time getting it off. |

Mine was loose on my M2 (2000) and I just wrapped elect. tape around the front mounting horn for the tank. |
