What do ya think? I posted pics of my white fairing set-up after installation in September. A number of you commented on all that white space and the need for some graphics. I had already started working on a logo, was dragging my feet, the fateful day came, plans changed, here's what I came up with. Haven't worked with vinyl before & its a bit tricky, but results speak for themselves. This is in reflective blue (so glows white under light at night...nice safety feature).

That looks really great and does spice the white up a bit! Where did you get the decals and how much? Take care. Sam |

That's the first graphic I've seen that I want on my fairings. Nice work! |

Just purchased a set of white fairings, not far off of what I had in mind except in red. |

You're on thin ice there Ohbuellman. Look up trademark law on Wiki(service mark falls in the same category). It is common knowledge that Erik Buell Racing exists and you have created a logo knowing that to be the case. Best case for you would be that the real Erik Buell Racing logo is significantly different from than what you have created. |

Too bad Erik is too busy at the moment to get some official EBR decals out. I know the parts need to take priority, but I would love to see some decals, t-shirts, hats ect. They are coming down the pipe, and I can relate to some of us who can't wait. |

As long as he does not sell them it's more of an homage to EBR. But yeah it's walking a thin line. Still looks perfect. |

i'm sure if you asked permission to use the logo and dont sell them, you'd be fine... ask Erik on facebook or email.. wkd1 |

That's free advertising... why would EBR care if he stuck his company name all over the place? seems to me that EBR should be stoked to have anyone/everyone running around with that on their bike... look at all the yahoos who stick the Chevy/Ford/Dodge stickers on there trucks to support their brand... you know that those cheepo swap meat stickers aren't under the umbrella of the auto makers! just some dude with a sweet sticker cutting machine knocking them out. |

I think the point is that it is appropriate to first ask permission. The company deserves the chance to deny the use, or even grant use conditionally (think things as simple as sizing, color RGB values, etc.). |

Gosh guys. I really hesitate to post anything to this forum. I am not in business. I am not trying (nor do I wish) to sell anything. This is my personal bike (which I love) and just enjoy working on and riding. This was just a fun winter project for me with no ulterior motive. It basically falls in the homage category with no other intent. If anything, I would hope it would put a smile on Erik's face and nothing else. PS: For the record, I _DID_ email EBR. Got no response (and yes I know they're busy and this is a pathetically low priority). |

Yes, some companies and individuals are quite litigous and will sue readily. I remember when Harley Davidson brought a suit against the big four Japanese bike makers claiming that they(HD) alone had the right to produce bikes with the "single crank pin, v-twin engine" because of their historic HD "potato-potato" sound. The suit wasn't successful. A suit was successful however, in the middle 70's that forced the JAP's to drop 750cc bikes down to 700cc's, to avoid a "surcharge" instigated by HD, so that their(HD's) middle range line would be more competitive in the market place. It still didn't work as HD's were to overpriced and lacking in quality at the time. When I and another friend started a family oriented Harley Davidson club in the middle 90's, we couldn't use the word "HOG" in any context because the word itself was patented. We called the club the: "Road Hoggs." I wouldn't have asked about the availability or cost if I'd known the design was pirated, as I thought it was something he'd bought from EBR. Hey Porky,...............SO WHAT????? First off. EBR at this point in time is not going to waste precious capital to pursue litigation for trademark infringement on a stupid set of decals. Not to mention the fact that they were created by a buell owner for a buell bike. Let's use some common sense folks, there are no grounds for a lawsuit here at all unless the op was intending to sell them, and from what i've read, thats not the case. It sounds like some of you guys need a girlfriend or something!! |

Porky- FYI, HD was able to get the feds to help save the US motorcycle industry by putting a tariff on any bike over 700cc to make their products compete on price in 1983. It worked. The imported bikes were lowered to 699cc or raised in price, HD got out of the gutter, and the import tax (or whatever they called it) was lifted in 1987. HD didn't impose any 'surcharge'. The US government did. 1984 was a pivot year for HD with release of the evo and getting the company back from AMF. You can't say that they haven't improved in sales and quality since. This time, the tariff worked to the advantage of the US motorcycle industry. |

As long as you don't start selling or giving them away en' mass I doubt Erik will mind, but I certainly don't speak for him. As far as the implementation on your bike goes, I think it would look better if it were a LOT larger and black or a dark gray like the frame. |

I think it looks really good. I would do the horse LARGER and probably angle everything so it went with the lines of the bike a little better. Excellent work. I like it. I was thining of doing something similar with the horse, but no words for the pods. ac |

POC (Point of Clarification): [1] I did not "design" this logo (though it took some bit of computer work to get it up to a usable resolution from 20kb), [2] the actual logo is trademarked and originated from the EBR Facebook page, [3] I consulted a lawyer and this is for personal use only so no infringement, [4] I m not selling anything and have no commercial interest in this logo or its use, and [5] what I feel is most important, EBR emailed me and under this explicit set of conditions has no concern with me doing this. After all, I am promoting EBR on an 1125R that I purchased. I wish we didn't have to jump down each others' throats on this forum so much. Thanks to those with a PMA! Ride hard. Ride safe. |

Looks a lot better than having a big slab of white. That Pegasus would look good on the air box in place of the old Buell logo. |
