Hey Guys, I have a slight problem. I was going to get some gas for my 2000 S3T and the gas cap lock release won't unlock. I can turn the release all the way around but the cap won't come off. Any suggestions??? I would take it to the dealer but I don't have enough gas to get there and I don't have access to a truck or trailer for a few days. Thanks in advance for any advice. |

Ebola, what do you mean, "won't unlock"? Does the key not turn? The key turns, but the release does not allow the cap to loosen? The tuber gas caps are known to stick occasionally, there is a nut on the bottom of the cap that adjusts the spring tension of the hold down clamp. This is what usually causes a "stuck gas cap". You can remove the whole gas cap assembly by removing all the screws around the aluminum trim ring around the cap. This will pull the whole assembly from the tank, and give you access to both sides of the gas cap, allowing you to loosen that nut, and get the gas cap off. You can also add more gas at this time in case you still can't get the cap off the ring... |

Bart, Thanks.. What I thought and what you confirmed was right on.. the lock mechanism wasn't releasing... I was able to loosen the nut & get it open.. Seems that the lock was stuck.. I just wanted to throw it out there incase there was anything I needed to look for... |

Ebola297, When you get the gas cap apart look at the hole in the black plastic part. The hole gets rounded out and just lets the flipper tab just spin around. You then have to fix the hole. Hammer the plastic back into shape and put super glue on the top and bottom and hope the washers hold in in shape. Or fill the edges of the hole with some plastic weld or something you can reshape for the flat edge. |

I just put an open air box on the bolt and wanted to make sure that it wasn't running to lean. Thanks, Alex Also, we really should all get together sometime, at a ride or a ASBN meeting; something, getting to know the local buell family would be awesome. Thanks again. |

yea, yea... it was a good ride today, 235 miles, no rain, no burning heat, it was great! We started from the northwest part of town and stopped in fountain hills to stretch and top off the gas tanks.
Then we blasted up the beeline to Payson where we stopped for some breakfast.
After breakfast we continued on up HWY 87 to the junction where 260 splits off to the west. We pulled over to play in the snow and take some pictures.
The fruit of my labor, kind of looks like something Charlie Brown would make...
From there we zoomed across 260 hitting the triple digits a few times. Kelly, how fast did you get that Gixxer up to? We burned down I-17 following Wycked on the mighty 2fiddy. Amazing how fast that thing goes downhill! Made it back to the house in good time, and had a few cold ones and talked about doing a ride on Monday... Anyone else calling in sick the day after Superbowl??? Alex, I sent you an email... As you can see, there are some of us that do get together and ride. It's lots of fun, you should join in sometime! |
