I'd be interested to see the mags which put the new R1 at the bottom of a comparo.. I rode one and the power delivery and handling rocked. Cite those reviews please.

This ever so lightly veiled fiction of a comparo. is just in time for the Cycle shows. Imagine that? Given the choice between a new R1 v. 1125R v. a S1000R I'd even take an '07 GSXR1000 before the BMW. In it's 4th year of development it will still be a turd.

For the last 15 years the old farts in the BMW camps looked at the real SuperBikes and SuperSports and bitched about how NOBODY needed THAT much RwHP, because according to THEM NOBODY knew what to do with that much horsepower. Now they want to join in the fun but their machine can't compete against the others on a track, with everybody playing by the same rules, on the same grid.

The new Gen. of poseur-du-jour from Bayerischen want to play on the track but forgot that a race track is not where they park in front of the cafe latte shop and troll for fake praise at the latest payment acquisition acquired, after it's recommendation in the Spring Fashion issue of GQ.

Erik Buell never left the track. He stayed and studied the best and most painful way to improve his breed of machine. His passion was infectious and a beautiful company grew and so did the machines.

The BMW faggots go to the track once a year to cheer on their N8. Go back to the AARP Bayerische circle jerks and learn something about your SuperBike heritage and how it died with Reg Pridmore and the R90S. The "soft sell" don't work here where people actually work for a living. Spread your BMW grifting BS elsewhere.

Citation: BIKE magazine, current issue. Here's a scan of the R1 report:

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v362/kenkdit22/BMW%20S1000RR/?action=view&current=BikeUK-2010LitreBikeRoadTest6.jpg

Y'know, I'm buying an S1000RR, but I don't spread a bunch of info about it across this forum; because it's not appropriate or respectful - this forum is about Buells.

At the same time, I own an 1125CR and have every right to be here. Maybe I'm just an "old fart", "poseur du jour", "old snot" and "faggot" when I'm riding the BMW, and I'm a regular guy on the Buell. I don't know. But knock off the flaming and name calling per the forum rules.

KeS

BTW - I was at the BMW dealer today riding along with the demo bike runs - on my Buell - and I didn't get this kind of crap from anyone. I got a lot of "nice bike" comments and pleasant conversation.

Kevin, when you do get it, please post about it on here, just because a handful of people here hate the bikes from the motherland, doesn't mean nobody is curious : )

As Froggy said, please post about it when you get it.

Name callers,
No need to call names just because you may not care for a brand that others do. Enough already.

BMW is doing something Harley should consider: EXPANDING their market!!! Notice that BMW still produces quirky, horizontally opposed twins... but they're also producing off road bikes, adventure bikes, sport touring bikes, supersport bikes, etc. What's Harley doing? They abandoned their ONE division that knew anything about innovation and instead are just throwing new paint and chrome on the same old shit they've been producing for DECADES.

Harley isn't attracting new riders and are scratching their heads wondering WHY? BMW, on the other hand, IS producing new bikes in new markets and IS growing their brand.

Ten years ago a Harley-head made a comment that he didn't think BMW would be around much longer. I'd like to find that same guy today and ask him what he'd say now.

As for "Holier-than-Thou" BMW riders... I remember seeing Court Canfield's Buell at the Morganton BMW National Rally many years ago. I was desperately trying to find the man, but never did (that year) but quite a few Beemer riders were stopping and admiring his Buell. I didn't hear one derogatory or negative remark either.

Someone needs a reality check.

"1125RSuperBike Board" -there's your reality check. No, I don't want to see your "Review" of a BMW bike in the Buell Forums subsectioned for the 1125R/CRs.

Have a situational problem with your 1125R you want to discuss? Great! Many of us have had the same problem, more than likely, and are extending a hand with solutions that are fast and easy. You wonder why going to a BMW dealer is an objectionable "solution" or comparison? Get over it-it's a Buell site!

Feel the need to do the soft sell BS of a BMW? ADVrider. ST forums in the BMW section? Yeah, there's your spot.

Conspiracy and tin foil hats, yes, that's the dismissive BS of the Branded people who can't seem to read the top of the web page they are on. Throw your stinky conspiracy finger on the MOA Forums where your like-mindedness in Branding is acceptable.

Oh, nobody wants to look at the reality of the OP's links of BS; going from a '79 Honda CX500, to an 1125R, to a S1000R? It's fictional interwebs marketing that's REALLY getting thin. If you BMW marketing girls need to drool in a circle, feel free to do it in another Forum. Host a WSBK party and watch it (S1000R) go down in flames with your buddy. Great! You can discuss how you look just like Ruben Xaus and Troy Corser! Beautiful, in 12th place! Outstanding!

However, keep your dismissive thinly veiled marketing and sales in an appropriate BMW Forum. The H-D dealer fixed his Buell turn signals-FOR FREE under warranty. Is that right? If you need a salesperson to blow sunshine up your arse for 12 minutes while having an assistant bringing you muffins and lattes-stay at Gina's!! It ain't gonna happen at an H-D dealer and it ain't gonna happen here!

A few years back, I was talking to a fellow who worked at the Portland Police garage where the cars and BMW 1150's were maintained. I asked how the cops were liking their BMW's compared to their old Kawasaki's he said they loved them but
the guy that works on them has gone grouchy as his workload had increased substantially.

every process evolves; business, manufacturing, racing, whatever. comparing HD and Buell to a carmaker that also happens to sell bikes is like comparing apples to oranges, not he same.

belt drive's have the lowest frictional losses of any delivery system, beemers have em too!

a small batch micro producer being held to the same standard as an industrial giant and with the difference in MSRP's they are in different markets.

It will probably be on the Quickboard, and even then, don't click on it. I really don't care if you don't read it.

As for the rest of your post, what happened to you? I get this vibe that BMW royally screwed you over somehow.

Danny, you nailed it. Even in the Uly section we commonly are comparing them to the 1200 GS Adventure. It is an awesome bike, but with a fully loaded GS costing twice as much as a loaded Uly, its hard to justify the cost. BMW isn't perfect, but that doesn't mean they build bad bikes.

I think someone was abused by a BMW rider in his formative years...

Damn shame, because he is the exception to the rule. I've always found the Buell crowd VERY similar to the BMW crowd. Neither one wants to follow the conventional road. Both appreciate engineering and "Function over Form."

They are far more alike than they are different.

That thought crossed my mind, but I didn't think it would be appropriate for me to say : D

I know first hand the Uly crowd and the BMW GS crowds are the same, just the BMW guys have the most expensive GPS units, and the Buell's tend to have refurb 8 year old models : )

-I am here 'cause I have a CR, and also everything here is all about Buells. Let's keep it that way.

I don't know who from BMW pissed in your breakfast, but this is getting absurd.

First, I didn't go from an 1125R to a S1000R, I test rode a 1200GS & a K1200S. Totally different.

Second, I don't go straight from a CX500 to an 1125R. There was an '81 Goldwing in there for 200-300 miles before the carbs fouled out. Still sitting in my garage, because I decided that I wanted something smaller, lighter, and with more power for commuting, especially as I was going to be up at a higher elevation.

I bought the CX500 when I was in college as an undergrad, as it was cheap, and sufficient for my needs. I rode it for 4 years or so, since it did everything I needed.

Before moving halfway across the country, and after an attempt at a Goldwing (which was a nice bike, just really, really big for any in town work), I got an 1125R when they were being blown out. I'd add, the 08 I was looking at and bought was cheap *before* Buell went under. The dealer just wanted rid of them.

So, feel free to believe I'm a BMW marketing shill all you want. It doesn't really bother me, but you're not exactly helping your credibility. I'm reporting my experiences with a few different dealerships/brands of motorcycles.

I'll tell you what. You guys need to take a break. If you want to see some real hatred, vituperative bile, and real trolls, go find a Dyson vacuum cleaner forum. The Buell haters will need to go back to school and take some courses to equal the Dyson haters. It's a hoot. I need a new vacuum cleaner and was doing some research. I thought I was in a Buell forum! Haha. Some people really need to get a life. Now, I am just joking, hate for somebody to kill me over my comments on a vacuum cleaner! That was great going to Morgantown. I used to get 2 or 3 "we need you to go ------" in a hurry. I'd just get on the bike, ride cross country, hang out for the weekend and ride home.

That particular event was to gauge reaction to a new color.

Nice folks.

In the last 5 years I've owned nearly all the bikes named in the thread. Guess I'm just lucky ... I never really had anything but a good time.

The original poster stated to flame away. So people flame and thats a problem?

If I go into a bar looking for a fight I bet I can find one.

If the original poster would have taken a different tone, many here on Badweb would have gone out of their way to help.

Dont act like people on Badweb are the problem. Act like this on any forum and the result will be the same.

Mike, you know whether he put "flame away" or not, he would have gotten the SAME flames.

There are some pretty rabid posters in this thread drinking far too much of the Buell kool aid.

If I were Syonyk, I would be pretty miffed at Cheddarhead for questioning my honesty & honor.

I figured taking a picture of my 1125R (with the Goldwing in the background) with a sign on it saying "Screw you, Cheesehead" would be inappropriate. And then he'd claim since I was funded by BMW, they just bribed someone with an 1125R to let me take the picture to "keep my cover."

Can't win with some people.

Here is a write up from a guy on another sportbike message board. He rode the new S1000rr.

As for the bike itself, like I said, it was the most amazing motorcycle I have ever ridden. All the bikes had ABS and traction control, as well as quick shifters. The bikes themselves were so confidence inspiring that I had a knee down on the second lap, on a bike I had never ridden before, and a track I had never ridden before. The ABS and traction control is seamless, you never feel it working, but occasionally you see the light on the dash winking at you.The traction control works so seamlessly with the quickshifter that I could snap full-throttle upshifts at nearly full lean coming onto the PBIR backstraight. The slipper clutch works so flawlessly that I was able to drop from 6th gear and almost 170mph to 3rd while practically standing on the brakes and the bike just slowed down faster than anything I ever experienced. You can get on the gas earlier, and brake later, than on any bike I have ever ridden. And you can trail brake to the apex like a pro. And the throttle response is so smooth! It has a few different mapping modes, but rather than feeling like you are riding a bike that is being held-back, it simply feels as though you are riding a bike with less HP. I can't go into specifics, but suffice to say there's a lot more than wheel-speed measuring going on there. We had over 160 riders in one day, and a total of 3 accidents, all low-sides. Considering it was a 193hp bike mostly being ridden by owners of BMW dealerships who have never ridden a sportbike before, much less on a track, that is one hell of a testimony to the bike. That bike will make you faster, or at the very least give you the confidence to go faster.

BMW's goal was to generate conquest sales from Japanese sportbikes. I can tell you this, after riding that bike on the track, I was sitting in a meeting learning more about the bike, and adding up how much I could get for my GSXR, KTM, and pit-scooter and wondering what dealer cost would be on the bike. I want one, bad.

Quick! Someone go find out what his previous bikes were and claim he can't possibly have ridden a S1000R because of them!

Back in reality, that's pretty much what I've heard in every single review of the S100R - that it's a brilliant, wonderfully engineered bike that makes it incredibly easy to confidently go fast.

At the NYC Motorcycle Show last week I saw Cobie Fair (of California Superbike School) working the BMW booth. I walked over and talked to him about the wisdom of putting a 193hp motorcycle in the hands of students who very likely might never have ridden on the track before. He said he rode the bike and it is a LOT easier to ride than the ZX6 Ninjas they used to use, and that you'd have to be pretty ham-fisted to get into trouble with that bike despite it's power.

Everytime I've taken CSS I've used my own bike (a variety of BMWs and Buells) but this year I might just have to use a school bike...

Back for another load of low-grade interwebs marketing?

If your flame suit has a leak in it, let me help you out of it and into whatever pious gear you wear that makes you the narcisisstic center of an H-D dealership where NOONE will pay YOU any attention, AND gives you some sort of foundation for a rant?

Hope you bought your 1125R at the giveaway prices last fall. You can actually make some money on it and take a pile of cash to your local Iowa dealership and buy whatever you want in BMW. That'll be fantastic Sporto!! Gosh, you can fit in with the whole Ewan/Charlie crowd, and compare your latest farkle-a-thon! Wonderful and joyous!

"Proving" that someone is just a marketing shill without any evidence of your point, and plenty of other evidence (floating around the internet, if you knew what a search engine was) that I do, in fact, own an 1125R, and am somewhat less than pleased with aspects of it?

It was an interesting exercise . . . paint it kind of a BMW-ish color, toss some fairing lowers, bags, tall windscreen on it . . . park it there and just stand back and watch.

I really enjoyed the event and met a lot of nice folks.

Later that year . . . the bike that I was testing a year before it's release was also Amazon Green. Never seemed to fall victim to the "Curse of Green" associated with cars.
