Laugh if you want... 2nd left side latch broke:  Mickey Moused a fix with JB Kwik:  That worked but a few months ago the rings blew up. I epoxied them back together with some thin stainless washers for support, that worked great but then it broke again like the first pic. Rode with the case bungied shut the last couple months. Yesterday I tried this:   So it looks hacked, it works. Great. $6 for two hinges and screws from Ace Hdwe. There will be no more suicidal hinge rings on my bike. I refuse to give more $$ to Hepco Becker for their replacement junk, and since this works so well I'll be improving on it. | ||

Wolf, what I did was put a special folder in My Documents for these kinds of threads. Just right click somewhere on the page and create a Shortcut to your desktop. Drag and drop the new icon to the My Documents icon, open up My Documents then drag the BadWeB tile to your folder. There might be a more correct way but I'm simple... | ||

I just had to replace my lock cylinder. I guess this will be the next thing to go on these crappy hinges! How can a company that charges sooooo much for their bags go with such an obviously flawed hinge design? | ||

I think I will check out the latches on mine. It might be worth putting a "fix" on them before they break. Sure would be stronger that way. When these break, is always the flat part that connects the latch to the body that breaks? | ||

When these break, is always the flat part that connects the latch to the body that breaks? My first two, the rings (Pic #2 above) fell apart. They were warrantied. The third latch's rings tore through while in the garage so I was able to recover the pieces and fix it. Mnrider's broken latch seems to have the rings intact (betting they have cracks in them though) so I guess they can break anywhere along that tab on the clamp. The rings just don't have the support that the hinge points elsewhere on the latch assembly have. My Shade Tree Fix is now complete with a touch of duct tape, the icing on the cake:  Seriously, I'm thinking out a much nicer alternative. This last one took a lot of trial and error bending of the hinge to get the angles just right. But at least it works. | ||

Now that I looked at mine the pictures make more sense. I will just continue to take care not to use the latch to pull the covers closed. But when it does break, I will follow this as a guide line. The hinge repair looks like it will fix both type broken latches or holes. | ||

I never understood how the fancy good latches that hold the bags to the frame and the cheezy plastic crap that's on the bags themselves are both made by the same company. They should at least offer to let us buy better latches! nothing better is available? Not even is we pony up the cash ourselves!? | ||

FYI, you can still get the latches for 20$ at american sportbike. I ordered my last one today, going to get a set of caribou cases and sell the Buell ones as soon as they are fixed. | ||

Outdoorsman bags use the bag-to-rack latches as closure latches. Just FYI. |
