I have never been a fan of the Jardine pipe for various reasons, including the dangerous 1125R pipe, but I have never seen anything like this.

Do yourself a favor, yank that off, get a Drummer or similar pipe, and use the Jardine as a wheel chock.

i never understood why people liked these pipes. They are cheap, you have to worry about a fiery red ball of stuff coming out of it in the future. then you have to take it apart to repack it. They were not made specifcly for buell engines as they are e same as all of the other pipes they make just with mounting hard ware for the buell.

The only advantage of these things I know of at all is the face that they are lighter than all of the other options.

That's not the first one I've seen do that.

What a bummer.

Interesting. I'd love to know more details like number of miles on the pipe, riding condition when it blew apart, last time pipe was repacked, inspection or quality of rivets (because clearly that is what caused the failure), etc.

from the pics, it looks like the rivets pulled through the rear of the can. if that is indeed the case, it could have been caused by an improper fit with the rear piece. hears what im saying...if the can has ever been apart, it could have been improperly put back together causing the pieces to rattle and wallow out the holes. did you notice any rattling leading up to the blow out? a friend of mine has a Jardine pipe with loads of miles on it and never so much as a rust spot. its not my favorite pipe, but whatever.

I have a Jardine exhaust too. Can I weld the end of the exhaust to the can? Thanks in advance.

Calling a lawyer is waste of time without a disfiguring injury, and the possibility of pain/suffering or punitive damage award.
That is, unless you want to pay to sue them for the principal.

how many miles were on it? i have seen them pull apart like this, but only after they blow out all the packing and continue to be ridden. that said, glad you're okay, just cut it a little shorter, repack it, and keep on keeping on.

I must be one of the lucky ones.
I used a Jardine on my '05 XB9SX for 16,000 miles, trouble free.
I re-packed it around 10,000 miles.
I installed a Jardine on my XB12XT for about 4500 miles, but couldn't handle the popping, and lack of tune for the '08 bikes and went back to stock and sold the bike.
I've got an '03 XB9SL that i'm running a Jardine on now, and it runs just fine, and has no problems with blowing it's guts out.
It's a great pipe, that makes good power for the XB9's.

it shouldn't have blown like that in 3k, that's for sure. and that's a huge bummer on the swingarm, man.

I havent run over anything, I do like the power the pipe made , but with that kind of questionable quality im not gonna risk it, pogue I know latus used an edelbrock muffler as theyre base platform Im considering your idea

my muffler is a magnaflow streetrod type universal muffler.
made my own tabs to mount it,and used a mandrel bent 90 degree elbow and trimmed to fit then welded it all up.
this muffler has a perforated tube inside to guide the exhaust out instead of dumping it into a can and letting it just kinda spill LOL out the other end .it has been getting quieter as it gets more carbon inside the packing over time and miles ridden.
thing is...muffler is cheap, you dont like one it is not too expensive to swap out and try say a flowmaster or whatever brand you like.

The general opinion has been for a long time now that the aluminum Jardine just doesn't stand up to he v-twin motor in our bikes. The soft metal shell and stainless rivets are just a bad match.

I now have 14K on my Carbon Fibre Jardine, and the thing has been amazingly tough. Sorry to hear about your trouble.

I've got about 20K on my Carbon Jardine. Still in great shape. I have heard that the aluminum ones don't do well if the decel popping isn't tuned out. The popping just beats on the rivets until you get what you've got.

As was suggested, it can be cut slightly shorter and put back together again with new packing.

I'm curious if you had a lot of decel popping while running it.

Supertrapps are universal. I wish I had a dyno to find out how many discs to use. I wonder how it would sound too.

Ive found that with the 1200 sportsters six to nine disc's was the optimal number to get a nice wide flat torque curve and still pull good hp , I bought the universal muffler and am fabing up a mount for it , ill be sure to post some pics.
