Getting ready to change the muffler color from Orange back to Black. Pg 7-41 of Buell Bible sez ya gotta have a HOSE ASSEMBLY (part# HS0020.02A8A) to aid in removal & installation. What is it ? and anyone R&R'd their Muff without it and avoided disaster ? |

That part number is for a non-CA fuel overflow hose... no idea why it would be needed for a muffler. |

All you need is a new front muffler bracket. |

I'm away from the house and the manual and the bike, thus the question... One of the things I was going to do soon was repaint the can because of its rusty nature and my coastal zip code. If I remove the exhaust and paint it, do I need to replace the front muffler bracket with a new one? |

The hose is only needed if you intend to replace the interactive cable. I have not done one yet, but it seems the reason for it is to guide the end of the cable through its retention devices without damaging it or the wires that it runs along. The front muffler strap (not bracket) is recommended to be replaced anytime the muffler is removed. |

Thanks Etennuly - So it's only if your REPLACING the cable, not just unhooking it for Muff removal. Got it. TTFN, j |

All you need is a new front muffler bracket. and you do. I only rehashed that point 'cuz I didn't listen when Keven told me that. I checked, he told me I didn't listen. Wife is right, I don't hear well. My strap broke in the middle of A 500 mile ride.. |

This is one of those moments where I recall standing next to Al in the warehouse at American Sport Bike and overheard him tell someone on the phone that the strap should be replaced and why if they were going to do a muffler removal. I heard it, didn't synapse and walked out without one. Damn. It should hurt MORE to be this slow (and for hijacking this thread) because apparently, I'm getting comfortable with the current level of discomfort. Yeah - Al had mentioned that in my preorder parts questions I had - got one just for that reason. Now Dr Greg has used his over a few times with no problems. I however, don't want to roll the those dice. Probably NOT available @ Ace hardware if it 'knackers' on ya in BF Egypt. |

Rear straps are two, working in unison sharing the load. The front one being single needs all the help it can get. Basically they are like any stainless hose clamp. The tightening process damages the spot where they are torqued properly. A second torquing in that weakened spot will not hold as well as it did when new. |
