So I posted all the info on dirty tires I could find in the Tires section of the knowledge vault towards the bottom here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/150224.html?1264178638 But just today I found these, while looking up the scorpion syncs... New Pirelli Scorpion Trails Comes in 120/70ZR17 fronts and 190/55ZR17 rears. Anyone heard of them before??? They must be brand new... there are next to no reviews of them. The one review I found said they got just over 6k miles, and many of them were hard miles. They're not nearly as dirt capable as most I posted in the link above, but they're in the right sizes (190 is close enough)! No guessing if a 150 or 160 rear or 130 front will have any adverse effects. |

I saw a post about it a long time back, but back then it was just unveiled and you couldn't even find pictures of it. |

They don't LOOK like they would be better than Syncs. I'll wait for some reviews from real people before I try them. |

These come spec on the new Multistrada. Now if Metzler would come through with the Tourance, we'll be getting somewhere. |

They don't LOOK like they would be better than Syncs. Problem is, if you go to Pirelli's website, you'll find that the syncs are NOT made for off-roading in the least. They are classified as sport touring tires. These Scorpion Trails are actually classified as dual sport tires. Albeit they are listed at 95/5 (95% on road, 5% off road), that's still more than the syncs. It could very well be that the main difference is a heavier duty carcass, which would not be noticeable in the pictures. |

would they use different type of rubber as well? These may not last as long as the syncs? |

You could be correct on one or both accounts. I sent an email to them, can't wait to see the response! (Message edited by mikef5000 on January 25, 2010) |

I read somewhere (ADVrider I think) that these tires are a dual compound type. Should make them wear a bit better than syncs. I just put on a new set of syncs so you guys all go try these out and let me know how they are!! Just did a search over on ADVrider. There are a couple of threads on these tires. Doesn't look like they are dual compound. (Message edited by invisible_monster on January 25, 2010) |

When I first replaced a Sync, about a year ago, Pirelli had them grouped as SuperMoto tires. Mark SE AZ |

"These come spec on the new Multistrada." "Pirelli worked alongside Ducati as its technical partner throughout the project, developing the new Pirelli Scorpion Trail tyres specifically for the Multistrada 1200. They represent the first dual compound tyre for on/off road use with the central section of the tyre a harder compound than the outer sections. Combined with a special tread design and carcass structure, their 190/55 section delivers racing performance on the road in terms of grip and lean angles, while ensuring high mileage for touring and good off-road performance. The new generation tyres are purposely designed for the four-bikes-in-one concept." source: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/09/ducati-finally- unveils-2010-multistrada-1200-at-eicma/ As similar as the intended purposes are of the Uly and Multi~, I would think that the new Trails would be excellent tires for a Uly. |

Hear, hear! Granted, the tread doesn't look very aggressive, but the intent of the tire suits the Uly perfectly. --Doc |

So 95/5 is adventure riding ? No wonder the CityX is so abused. Its a bout 65/35 split for the ol girl. More in the winter as that is when the mud is at its thickest. The MT-60 will remain the winter tire. |

Just contacted my local dealer...and he is being told that they are not available (at least in the States) until the end of March. I'm due tires now...so they may not work for me this year. |

So 95/5 is adventure riding ? That's adventure riding Ducati-style. The 5% is for that little patch of sand and dirt that sometimes collects in a tight curve which can make for quite an unexpected adventure with supersport tires. Oh, well. 5% is better than 0%. I'll probably give them a try. |

They look like good tires, but I'll be opting for the new Angels. Every review I've read says they do the job of the Stradas but do it a lot better. I've loved Stradas on my X1, and they're great on the XT now. btw I don't do much "adventuring". Only some occasional red dirt roads around a lake. |

They are Dual Compound???? That's awesome! I've been in contact with Pirelli via email, and all it's gotten me is a bruised forehead from doing this: I'll give you the super condensed recap: Me: How do these tires compare to the syncs? Them: what kind of bike? Me: Buell Ulysses, but that really doesn't matter, how do they compare to the syncs? Them: We have not tested them on your bike, so we don't know the tread life. In my head: AAAAHHHHH Me: That's understandable. But from a technical standpoint, how do the rubber compounds compare, is one tire harder and longer lasting than another. No further answers from them yet. This will most likely be my next tire. At 95%/5% it's the most dirt capable tire available in a proven tire size for our bikes. That's pretty sad, but true. |

Just found this in another review: The single compound is optimized for quick warm-up and the ability to provide excellent traction in wet or dry conditions on asphalt. So we've got some seriously conflicting data here. The pirelli website is of no help... but it does mention the demo route for the launch of these tires was 6500 miles... which means they are fairly confident in the treadlife. |

Methinks there's a typo here...the "demoers" wouldn't be back to report in for a few months. --Doc |

Methinks there's a typo here...the "demoers" wouldn't be back to report in for a few months. Why? I did 2k miles in 5 days for Buelltoberfest...on my D616's. I'll stick with them for now, they're the best I've found for mudwork and they do just fine for me on pavement. Those Pirelli Trails don't even look as aggressive as the Syncs. |

See, I knew I wasn't crazy! It does have dual compound. I'm interested to hear some more real world reports on these tires. BTW, I got about 5500 out of my D616 rear. This is on an XT riding 2-up with luggage primarily. |

I've had two Sync's go flat with a rock puncture right down the middle while trial riding. I for one will be trying these out. |

This Just In From Pirelli! The Trail tire is a much heavier duty tire than the Sync. The Sync was never intended for off-road riding. This new tire is much heavier, and more appropriate for getting off the beaten path. The rubber compound is also harder and thicker, so should last longer, BUT it is still a single compound tire, NOT DUAL COMPOUND. I got a phone call from Pirelli today and that's what they said at least. When they are available, I'll be buying a set ASAP. I'll pull my good Strada's as quick as I can, so I have a backup set for Lightning. (Message edited by mikef5000 on January 28, 2010) |

Rumor has is they'll be available in March! The pirelli guy had no input on that tho. In fact, he was arguing with me that they didn't even make them in 190 width. I told him they come from the factory on new Ducati's, and they're listed on Pirelli's website. |

That's good to hear; my last off-pavement ride on Syncs resulted in a rear puncture which I couldn't locate, a 10-mile ride on a flat tire to cell phone signal, and a ride home in the back of my pickup. --Doc |
