So heres my reasoning for changing to a CR front... I'm going too fast and will eventually get in to big trouble....

I've been quoted approx £600 for the parts to do the conversion and 5 hours of labour at £75 an hour. This is obviously a big job but is it one that I can do myself? Do I need any special tools and so on? I assume I need at least a security style driver to get the ignition barrel out for relocation

Here Is a link The the guys who did a swap.

I have been thinking of the opposite... to go from my black CR to a R.

My buddy on a Gix 600 Always gets me on top speed (over 150) because i can barley hang on the bars at that point

Or just buy one of each. They are cheap enough right now.

Yes, you need to swap just about everything in front of the gas cap.

You could always do what I'm doing and just change to a set of Renthals and cut the fairing down a bit, that'll knock a bit off the top end as you'll lose some aerodynamics..

But TBH you're looking to change a lot of stuff when in reality all you need to do is use some self control...

I'm not having a pop - i am in the same boat, I have no willpower and a flat bar conversion will make the bike more "fun" at lower speeds (for me at least)..

I bought all the lines and cables from West Coast HD for about £120 ish and a set of Renthal fat bars and clamps from eBay.

I have a spare top yoke (triple tree) I bought off eBay for £20 and I've just cut and ground off the bar mounts and will just weld the risers on there.

I'm going to try a couple of sets of bars to see if I can do without cutting the front fairing down, but will do that if needed.

I reckon 5 hours is about right as you need to extend the control cables on both sides too (bought everything i need off eBay for £25)

Total for parts to do the job is £250ish and I think I have everything I need now..

If you're going to sell the R bits give me a shout as I may be interested in some spares..

Youve figured me out... Its a total lack of self control thats attracting me to a CR conversion. Besides that, I actually like the looks of the CR....

The top speed of the R is amazing and very easy to achieve on a quiet road at the right time of the day.

Still not put off though and may end up just having to go for it...

Hey Paul - I just noticed your homepage URL - I've been reading your stuff for a while now and used your posted instructions to remove the solenoid on my R..

Hope to see you on the road sometime or at a rally : )
