Yea, the coffee shop sounds good, we are going to leave my house a little after 9AM, so you can either meet us at the house, or at the coffee shop at 10AM. Do you know where Cave Creek Coffee Cafe is? (4C) it's on the right just as you enter Cave Creek. |

James, I doubt if there will be alot of riders going to Bartlett lake. We met up with the MSRP group last week, they are riding to Bagdad today. If you want to ride up there with them, they are meeting at the gas station in wickenburg at the intersection of US93 and Vulture mine rd, at 11AM. You can get all the info here: http://www.meetup.com/Moto-Sport-Riders-of-Phoenix /calendar/12249165/ Debbie and I are just going up and meeting whoever is at the coffee shop, and riding out to the lake at a leasurely pace. Pick your ride, fast or slow, long or short. |

So, Friday, I went up Yarnell, and out to Bagdad, and then turned around and came back the same way. That road is like a roller coaster! On the way back, I went around Yarnell about 6 times, hehe. I think I was getting some pretty good lap times, LOL I finally stopped at the overlook to stretch and take some pics:
the view behind me
Saturday, Wycked showed up at the house, and he, Debbie, and I rode up the the Cafe in Cave Creek and waited for James to show up. While waiting we saw this nice old BMW
James and his brother showed up, both on Kawa's. We finished our coffee's and watched this guy kick start his old indian
Then we headed out to the lake. It was a nice ride, the weather wasn't too cold, and it certainly wasn't hot!
I just swapped out the jardine on my XB12 for a special ops pipe. WOW! Big difference! The Jardine didn't have any bottom end to it, I didn't have any power until about 4000 RPM. This special ops pipe pulls hard right from idle, it's great! Now, I'm going to have to get one for Debbie's XB9... |

Kelly called in Sick today, so we got together for a medicinal motorcycle ride, and took a quick run up South Mountain.
The weather was great! There was some sand on some of the corners from the recent rains, but other than that, the road was fun.
While up there, we saw this guy putting together a hang glider.
After awhile, he got geared up, and walked it to the edge and just jumped off.
I've never seen someone up close just launch themself off of a ledge like that. Pretty kewl!

He's still riding his Suzuki GSXR1000. His Concourse is still waiting on brakes, and a speedo cable... |

Hey, all, I have some probably pretty stupid questions. I have 3, soon to be four bikes in Arizona all of which are or will be registered in Alaska. So, the question is what does the emissions and registration cost and is there any advantage in getting it done? I don't plan to live there for some time if ever but might want to sell them someday and not ship them home. They are 05 xb12s, 06 xb9r, 08 1125r, and a 98 Katana. Thanks, LJM |

I thought it was around $18 to smog the bikes, but you do not have to smog all bikes. Just older ones past a certain year. That I do not know. REX |

They have to pass though. When I brought my bikes from California, they would not pass. Every year, I have to smog them, and get them ready to pass. The local Chopper shop has a machine that measures emissions and get them ready for me. After they are smogged, they adjust them back to where they run normal. REX |

You would do well to keep your registration in Alaska. The registration fees are high, and the emission test for motorcycles is a joke. As long as you maintain your alaska drivers license, there is no problem maintaining out of state registration. The Phoenix area is also a high risk area for vehicles, so your insurance will also go up. Like I said, it is best to maintain your license, registration, AND insurance with an Alaskan address. I own a home in New Mexico, and maintain my license, and all my vehicles, there. I've had no problems when getting pulled over, as long as I don't tell them I actually LIVE here. If you do sell any of the bikes here, you still will not be responsible for emissions, since you are from "out of state" and are only selling the bike. The buyer will be responsible for insuring the bike passes emissions when they register it... (Message edited by bartimus on January 22, 2010) |

Thank you, Gentlemen, That clears it up for me. Tentatively trying to head down the 12th for a few days to escape the 10 degree daily high temps. Hopefully will work this time, but unfortunately still have to work for a living. Will post if we make it in. Thanks, LJM |

does anyone have a spare stator for an 03-07 xb? mine got shorted out by a bad battery charger. i finished rebuilding my motor and would love to go riding. i had my flywheels trued, welded, balanced and lightened by revperf and what a difference it makes. way smoother, and it spins up unbelievably fast. if you have the means i highly suggest it. it made almost as much difference as adding the big bore. |

Andrew, Sorry I couldn't help you out with a Stator. I've just remembered, I think Wycked has an XB bottom end laying around, he may have a stator. I'm curious, how much did that bottom end work cost? |

bart, i appreciate your help. as it turns out i pulled the stator and it looks like new but the rotor is damaged and i think the magnets are weak hence the low ac voltage output. do you have a contact # for wicked? the bottom end work runs about $550. the difference is amazing, they took 3.5lbs out of the rotating mass of the wheels. i didnt have mine knife edged, with that it takes 7 lbs out if the wheels. |

Hey folks. Did i read right above that all bikes need to smog in Phoenix? I am shipping my 2010 1125R out there now and have told the dealer getting it to put on the Jardine Carbon pipe and K&N i just ordered from American Sport Bike. Should i smog first it will be registered out there? I also will be bringing out my 08 FLHX that has a built engine and "openish" pipes. Any of you ride Firebird track days? Im hoping to take it out there in early march. any info or maps i can find for good rides out there? Thanks for any help. Tim |

bikes only have to ems test after a certain age, i believe its four years so i wont worry about it. you will have to get an out of state inspection when you get here before they will give you plates. i have raced at the firebird tracks for 2 years now and trackdayed after five years. what do you want to know? |

Thanks Babyhuey. What is the inspection? We have that in NY and its pretty basic safety inspection but also includes custom exhaust (mainly straight pipes) are a no go? the bike will be headed to your shop (if your still at Arrowhead?) I will email Dan again in a couple days as i will need it inspected. Not really any questions about Firebird only if its a good place. I've done a few track days on my last Buell XB12R at Pocono and Beaver Run both in PA. I think AZ track day is listing like March 7 im going to try to make it there. I look forward to meeting you when i get out there in Feb. Thanks again. |

It is basically a smog test. They roll you in, put the sensor up the exhaust and let it run. If it runs cleanly you pass. If not, then a note is made and you do not get your pass. If you do not get your pass, you cannot get your sticker for the tag to ride on the street. It really doesn't matter about the pipes and sound yet. I have a vance and hines on one Buell and a super trapp on the other. To get the S2 to pass, you have to take off all of the rings and run it wide open. REX |

the out of state inspection checks your engine and vin#'s. like i said yours shouldn't need ems testing and there are no laws on mods down here as long as it pass the ems test when required. you could also look into the road race southwest trackdays on the saturday before races. the nice thing about those is you get a lap timer to gauge your improvements. |

Curious. I keep seeing the price of 1125's drop. So much so that I bought a used 08 (still under warranty) for $4600. But looking at the price keep falling for sales wondering why? Any thoughts? Thanks, LJM |
