airbox: Just a cleaning: Novus 1 Light scratches and cleaning: Novus 2 and 1 heavy scratches and cleaning: 3M 3000 rubbing compound, then Novus 2 and 1. Wheels: good old fashioned soap and water, then wipe the application area down with a little denatured alcohol.

Household soaps are basic (sometimes acidic) and can corrode metal surfaces. Non-abrasive neutral-pH automotive shampoos are better. Also, I worry that alcohol may be oxidative, so I prefer just a final rinse or wipe with distilled water, and dry with a leaf blower, finishing with a light application of wax if desired, to repel water and new dirt, and make them easier to clean next time. For plastics, it has been said that S100 special surface cleaner is milder than Novus 1, but I've not noticed a difference, so it might have been a technique or rag issue. Use only fine microfiber for the plastics, and you may have to rub for a long time in order to achieve a satisfying result -- not too fast or hard, to avoid heat buildup, and certainly no buffing machines. Don't expect to get it perfect, or you'll go nuts and make it worse rather than better. |

I thought I'd read on a forum here that the Harley products recommended in the owner's manual actually work very well, believe it or not... |

I have found Novus 1 and Plexus have the same results with Plexus being easier to use. Mothers plastic polish works better but is more labor intensive. Not that it takes an hour to use but it is not spray and wipe like Plexus is. |

Novus products work well, and I got the Meguiars motorcycle cleaning kit (see below) as a gift and the plastic cleaner worked well and is comparable to the Novus 1. http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G55033-Motorcycle-C are-Kit/dp/B0012ZITJQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automot ive&qid=1264043931&sr=8-1 |

oh... the Meguiars kit also had a non-slippery leather/vinyl cleaner worked well on the seat, haven't tried the rest of the stuff in the kit for general cleaning yet... |
