Hi; I'd like to get some opinions, has anyone had a chance to ride both the Uly and the Firebolt? How do they compare in your opinion? Is riding the Firebolt more closely comparable to the 1125R as far as riding position etc? thanks! dave |

yes the firebolt riding position is a lot like the riding position of a 1125 since they do use the same bars and seat. the uly is more upright and more of a dirt bike seating position, also the uly is a bit taller than the rest of the buells. If you like riding very long distances the uly will be much better than the firebolt but if you like a sporty seating position you will like th firebolt if you like something in between the two you will like one of the lightning variants. |

The 1125R feels less aggressive than the Firebolt. I haven't taken any measurements to confirm it or if it is placebo. As for how they compare, its a like a scalpel and a steak knife. Both fine tools, for very different jobs. Other than the motor, both bikes share next to nothing in parts. Without knowing you or what you want, I can't help you make a decision, but if possible ride a few and see. |

Oh I agree, this is kind of an apples to oranges comparison. I should have phrased it more pros/cons kind of thing. I've got a Uly and an 1125R and am contemplating picking up a new xb12r and wondering if it'd be enjoyable on it's own merit or if it's so similar to the Uly or 1125r that buying it would be kind of redundant. (obviously I'd like to collect the whole bunch but the budget does come into play once in a while hehe) dave |

well it is going to handle differently then the uly as well as the 1125r. obviously It will have the same kind of power as the uly and a simular not completely the same seating as the 1125r. |

No, not redundant at all. Get the XB12R. You'll love it. |

I have owned both. I can go just as fast on the Uly but more comfortably. |

Just read your other post, after riding an 1125 I feel like I am going backwards on the firebolt in a much more cramped position. |

This is a strange question. Just look at the two bikes, they are so diff i could not fathem these bikes being anything alike. One is an up right enduro style, and the other is a agressive stanced sport street/ track only bike not at all designed for off road. Im sure someone here will say something stupid in responce to my post, but please look at the two bikes before you go putting your foot in your mouth.

I've ridden one of every Buell (other than a few tuber models) IMO, the footpeg position is just too cramped on the XBR for my liking. It's a great bike, and would be my choice for a track bike if I had the funds for a garage full of more Buells. Everyone has their own tastes though.. for instance given the choice between an 1125 (R or CR) and a Ulysses, I went with an XT. It just suits my riding habits more than the aggressive seating and more than abundant power of the 1125's. If you've got the cash for another bike and already own a Uly and 1125, I would suggest buying parts for one of those bikes. Make your 1125 even faster, add some touring farkles to your Uly, etc. |

The 1125R feels less aggressive than the Firebolt. I haven't taken any measurements to confirm it or if it is placebo. I agree with this. My 1125R was more comfy than the 3 Firebolts I've ridden. Must be the revised frame and all... |

Ah there's the tidbits I needed to hear to help me decide... I'm pretty cramped up on my 1125R as is (even with Uly pegs on it) so if the Firebolt seems smaller then that's that. Maybe I'll try to track down an XB12Scg to add to the collection! Thanks everyone... dave |

Whoa there. Scg is even more cramped. Do you mean Ss? Scg is a lowered variation. Ss has a longer wheelbase. |

I noticed the same, that the 1125 is more comfortable than a bolt. I believe that the bars are even pushed forward an inch on the 1125. I thought that would wear on me more and stayed away from the 1125 for a while because of that. I was wrong. If you think a bolt is tight try out a gixxer. My legs cramped just trying to get to the pegs. |

Thanks for the correction gunut75, I had thought the layout was the same scg/ss but now that I look at the pics closer I can see how the lower seat profile would decrease the available legroom. dave |

the scg uses the same frame as the firebolt but is lower to the ground as well as having a lower seat. the ss has the same frame as a uly does and is taller than the scg. |

Subject bikes have same wheels, engine, gearbox ... every thing else about motorcycles are just accessories. 6-ft & 190 lbs, XB-R w/ S pegs: just right (disclaimer: never ridden Ulys out of the showroom) (Message edited by aptbldr on January 21, 2010) |

1125R is less cramped than the Firebolt due to the foot peg position. If I had an 1125R and an Uly sitting in my garage I doubt I'd ever ride the Bolt. The 1125R takes care of the need to throw caution to the wind and nip at its heels And the Uly does everything else. |

I have ridden both. If your worried about the cramped position on a firebolt, just put lightning pegs on it. You can go one step further and try and find Heli bars. |

American Sport Bike will have bar raisers available shortly. He has tested them on a 1125R, I believe he is waiting to get his hands on a Firebolt to confirm fit and clearance. |

I had a XB12R and now have a XB12XT. I love both bikes but the riding position of the XT is way more comfortable. |

I have an '03 9R and an '09 XT and they are drastically different. It became obvious to me the other day when I rode the Uly a bit and then switched to the Firebolt. The Firebolt had never felt cramped to me in over six years of riding it until that moment. The Uly is ROOMY and very upright and comfy. The Firebolt is much more aggressive, leaned forward, weight on your wrists and the pegs are higher. You are in a much more race-ready position on the Firebolt and it is amazing at the track or on curvy mountain roads. The Uly is not really what I think is track ready, but it too has a really confidence inspiring ability in the curves. I bought it to go far because a few 500 mile days in a row on the Firebolt is something like torture. |
