I decided to finish my S1 project for this year's show, it was definitely the last of my dreams and after this, I could finally put all my projects to rest, since my X1 will stay as is, I don't want an extreme show bike. so, after it took me almost a year to collect all the parts I needed for this project (most of them came from Italy, of course...), we started to assemble the bike... and this is the "work in progress" result!    as you can see, the front end is completely new: Ohlins forks with Brembo monoblock dual caliper brake system. custom bottom triple pairing with the "Billet to Race" top. also the master cylinders are new: Brembo for both front brake and clutch (19mm for brake, 16mm for clutch), obviously the clutch now is hydraulic and I had to buy the slave cylinder from Metmachex. now I'm waiting from Italy (will be shipped tomorrow) an Ohlins mono shock custom made from Andreani Group in Italy (they're Ohlins' specialized). this is the link... http://www.andreanigroup.com/scheda_prodotto.aspx? x=OjczvVZVnV0= the mono was custom set up for me and I also increased the length of the line to attach the reservoir to the frame instead of underneath the bike. also there will be a Brembo 2 pistons caliper at the rear, with a Brembo master cylinder instead of the weak Nissin. last but not least, a very nice chromed oil cooler I bought off eBay, will be attached on the left side of the frame. the only thing we still don't know if it can be done, an Ohlins steering damper to replace my Storz. we still don't know if it can be adapted on the bike, but we'll fight for it. otherwise, I was thinking to buy the Hyperpro, even if it costs a fortune! hopefully will be done by the beginning of February, then I'll see if I can add a paint job on the bike, otherwise it'll stay in its sober white pearl color... I hope I can do good this year also, win a Rat's hole for 2 years in a row with 2 different bikes would be a great satisfaction for me that I invested so much money and passion into my Buells! | ||

Nice looking bike so far. you've put some nice parts on it, although it's a bit to much "bling" for my taste. what color are the plastic's parts ? Oh, and don't forget to remove the tape from the front end  | ||

thanks guys! as always happens, I'm really curious to see how the result are every time I start a project, cause I collect the parts and try picture them together on the bike, but obviously it's always a different story when you can actually see them on the bike... I must see, so far I'm very happy with it. the guy at Sunset Choppers are doing a great job as always, they're very very meticulous, had to machine the front wheel in order to center the rotors, it was a pain in the butt work! the only shame is that I will have to lose the speedometer, since the sensor has a 1" diameter, while the front wheel axel now is 3/4" and nobody makes that size anymore. maybe if somebody of you has an idea how to bring the sensor in the transmission, I can try and see if we can make this conversion. those forks are amazing, I had the same forks on my 1098 S, they're very precise, even though I give you a tip: Ducati has saved a lot of money to assemble those forks, cause they're really not Ohlins, and I'll tell you why: if you take a 1098 S and look inside the bottom forks, right where the calipers attach, you can see 2 little letters: "FG". well, those forks were assembled from Gubellini suspensions in Italy, and this is why most of them need the seals to be replaced, cause they were assembled with a too much aggressive grease that cause the seals to dry and the oil starting to leak. I bought those forks used from a friend in Italy who crashed his Ducati and had a bunch of parts to get rid of, and in fact those forks were leaking oil (my friend realized just when he disassembled them from the bike) and when my dad brought them here for me, I had to replaced both seals and recharge them with fresh oil. Buellfighter, you can find a set of forks like that used on eBay, they go for about $1000 used (without the calipers though) and they fit almost just fine on the stock triple trees (even though I suggest you to buy a custom triple for those forks, they wouldn't look the same on the skinny stock trees), you will have just to machine a little bit the bottom and put a little spacer on the top, but nothing major. Rjn, the plastics are pearl white on my bike, but I wanna try and make a custom paint job, something more "race style". hey Beachbuell, I see you're from south Florida, exactly from where? we're a bunch of us riding our Buells on sunday, do you think you wanna join us? we're all from Miami-Ft. hey italian job if you want the speedometer you may be able to go with a harley drive as there axles are 3/4. im unsure of the ratio . shoot me the buell ratio and ill let you know if it exists. | ||

Are the angle iron uprights on your lift for extra safety to prevent a bike falling off, or are they a way to lift a Buell front end in the air? I'm always looking for ways to improve my lift table, and not buy more bike specific stands. | ||

Hi Italian, you do a good job,but i have one point. The holder for the brakefluid canister it's to massiv and to long.I think you made same new one like this .  So i think the canister was a little bit lower and looks not over the handlebar. | ||

Tutte, thanks for the suggestion but I honestly like the reservoirs to be standing high, they look more aggressive from my point of view. Huck, those irons are there cause they were working on the front end, so they needed something to hold the bike when the front end was missing. and since the front end needs to be disassembled again (the bottom tree needs to be re-anodized), they're still on the bike. | ||

I really like what youre doing and will follow this thread as you update it with more pictures etc. Question though - in picture #2 it appears the tire is very very close to rubbing the forks, is this correct? Or is it the camera angle? | ||

thanks Mr. Owens, no it's just the back of the tire that on the picture appears to be part of the top side and passes very close to the forks. there's good clearance between the forks and the front tire, it couldn't be any different, the triple tree is made for the S1... | ||

      there are still a couple of things I will have to fix, but I needed the bike on the road cause my X1 is dead! still missing an Hyperpro gold steering damper and the Brembo rear master, we needed new lines and a new benjo, will take care of that in a couple of weeks. no Daytona for me this year, I don't know who to go with and I anyway don't have enough founds to finish my projects and I don't like to go with a bike that is not as I want it to be. so maybe next year. for now, I'll enjoy my S1 on the road, it drives amazingly now, with full Ohlins suspensions and full Brembo brake systems. | ||

Looks beautiful, I love the triples you've used on this and the X1. Front fender looks really sleek, is it a Ducati part? Polished swing arm is perfect, have you considered polishing the fork bottoms to match? |
