You guys are sure welcome to join the SoCal Buell Riders Club this weekend. We're doing a benefit ride for Higbee Racing, and Shawn Higbee himself will be riding with us. We've got 17 riders going as of now. Details at http://www.meetup.com/SoCal-Buell-Riders/calendar/ 10789081/ |

Hey guys, I'm new in the San Diego area. Just moved here from Orlando, FL. Where and when do all the Buelligans meet up here? |

Hi Jago, go to that link on the post above you. We do an organized ride about every 2 weeks. David |

Thanks for the response, David! I checked out that link you suggested. Do you guys do a weekly meet up anywhere, or just the couple monthly rides? Do the rides usually start at the HD shop, and what kind of routes do you guys usually take? (Message edited by xbgenin on January 19, 2010) |

It really averages about 2 major rides a month. I think everyone still rides as much as they can, whenever they can, just that the meetup rides are about twice a month. The rides are pretty varied but we mostly hit the east county/mountain roads, ie: twisty roads. You can see there are about 90 people signed up in the group, but it really averages around 6-8 people every ride. Everyone is very cool, no egos. There are some that are expert, fast riders, and some that are slow and careful, and everyone in between. No-one is really a crazy rider though, everyone is at their own pace and we all have meetup spots along the route. Not too many twisty roads in Florida are there? Oh as far as the meeting spot, it changes depending on what route we are doing. Seeing you are in El Cajon, when we do the East County roads just let someone know that you are going to hookup along the way. (Message edited by blackm2 on January 19, 2010) |

You call those rides major? Now SCAB does major rides. Not for the meak though; I don't think I've ever been on one that didn't cross at least four county lines. |

That's great Nik, if you like to do a "major" ride every 2 months. |

I never thought about it that way, Nik, but you're right, we've crossed a number of county lines on a bunch of rides. The Rock Inn ride a few months ago hit a record SEVEN!!! San Diego Orange LA Kern SLO Santa Barbara Ventura Hmm, I sense a ride brewing...we need to do the same ride, but loop up through Riverside and San Berdoo to get it up to 9 Al |

Alright Buelligans, where's a place in San Diego to get wings and a beer? You guys don't have Ale House, no Buffalo Wings 'N' Rings, no Wing House, no Johnny's Fillin' Station, no Buffalo Wild Wings. WTF? Someone help me out here. |

Callahans in Mira Mesa is good. Haven't been there in a while, but they used to have great wings and a big beer selection. Al |

Thanks Al! I heard that the Hooters in Mission valley has bike night on Wednesday nights. Anyone interested in checking that out? (Message edited by XBGenin on January 27, 2010) |

Question for Al... I'm what could be called a novice user of JB Weld, so I wonder if you might be able to offer any advice. I have a 2008 XB12S with a broken header pipe due to the front band breaking (we spoke about it on the phone a week or so ago). Of course, I plan to order new flange studs, nuts, gaskets, and a new band...etc... But could the header be fixed using something like JB Weld, or should I take it to a welder and have them weld the pipe back together? What would you suggest? Or if anyone else has had this problem, it would be cool if you would share your stories. |

There is no way JBweld is going to hold a header together. The temperatures are way too high for that. You might be able to weld a crack up, but it depends where it is and how it is as to whether it will hold up over time or not. At $245 for a new header, I'd probably just replace it unless its a simple weld. Al |

It's a clean break. I don't know if I would call it a simple weld, but then again, I'm not a welder so I couldn't say. The front header is completely separated from the Y-joint up...pretty much broken right at the weld in the Y-joint. I was hoping I could get this all welded back together without having to buy a new pipe (incidentally, I didn't think JB Weld would work, but I figured I'd ask anyway). Next step is waiting for tax returns...ho-hum. Thanks for the advice! |

Next question... I'm thinking of using a Special O.P.S. pipe when I do this work. Many people I know have been happy with theirs. I'd like to hear other peoples' opinions on the active exhaust system in the 1200's. Special O.P.S. can leave the valve in, but I also know that many other systems don't use it and replace the actuator with the dummy plug. I know American Sport Bike sells the plugs and necessary parts, but does anyone advocate removing the active exhaust or leaving it in under any specific applications? What are some thoughts? |

Jago, My wifes XB12 has the Drummer which does away with the active exhaust. There was a sputter off the line the first 500 miles on the bike. Got the Drummer through Al, after installation the sputter went away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZZWYzSXgcI Crappy video but you'll get the idea. Dave |
