I saw the post about Eric’s pipe being available later for 1700 dollars, but also seen how it is not street legal. With that being said if you by it form a dealer and have them install it im sure that dealer will warranty it but I wondering if all HD dealers will. I don’t want to get the pipe go on a trip have a break down take it into the shop and then them void the warranty because I a race pipe and ECU on it. I live in Ohio and one of the dealers close by had to void a new firebolt a few years ago for those reason. A customer had and Buell pipe and ecu put on two months after having the bike. Long story short the ecu was bad from the factory and it took the dealer 16 hours to find out the problem when they did the contacted Buell at the time and they voided the warranty on the spot they guy had to pay the money for labor and new parts I just don’t want something like that to happen to me if I get this pipe. Dose any one on here work for a dealer or know any one who dose well. Thanks for all the help. Russell (Message edited by russmannnn on January 18, 2010) |

Begin Rant... Can anyone else tell that Russ here is born AFTER 1975? <sigh> I fear for this texting generation and their complete lack of language skills. I'm far from perfect. But seriously, my 8 year old can spell better than this. End rant.... The Ohio dealer is crappy, take it somewhere else. |

No doubt! Cut the guy some slack! This is a freakin' internet forum - not an english class. As for the question - I'd keep the stock ECM and chuck it back in if you need to service the bike at a dealership. |

If you alter your bike, you risk having warranty claims denied, pure and simple. Will you get denied claims? Couldn't say. The race pipe and race ECM are intended for race environments, not the street. |

I didn't mean to pick on you Russ. It's just the lack of intelligent effort to write the English language is an alarming trend in my opinion. |

Just because a dealer installs it doesnt mean HD will warranty it. The EBR race pipe is an aftermarket part. To get the bike to run right with it you are going to need a tune also. Having that on the bike will void the warranty, no matter who puts it on. I dont know how it works but if you were able to return the bike to stock before taking it to the dealer then you would have a pretty good chance of not having any warranty problems. |

Race parts generally have NO warranty save workmanship. Any "race" part will likely (rare exceptions for stuff bought from the MSG which is not EBR) void the warranty. But then ..... You knew that when you bought "race" parts labeled not for use on public roads. For clarification call your insurance carrier. You may also compromise some of your insurance coverages. |

I was just kind of wondering because the warranty is up in April but I was looking to extend it for another year. I don’t think you need a tune with the pipe if you get it from EBR because they already program the ecu straight from the shop and as long as you only run the pipe it was said you don’t have to buy the $500.00 soft wear to tune it. I bet if you tried to turn it back to stock they would have a way of seeing that it had mods on it at one point in time. |

If you want a serious answer, then pose a serious question--and it starts with proper grammar and spelling. Seriously, the downfall of spelling is the computer spell check. I don't know what's sadder 1) a person who really can't spell or 2) someone who chooses to spell incorrectly cause he/she thinks it's cool. |

$500.00 "soft wear"? My silk boxers only ran me twenty bucks! (That was for you Steve...and I couldn't agree with you more about the current trend!) |

You know what kills me the most... this forum has a built in Spell check and i can't stand making posts with stuff highlighted.... I also agree.......... if you want a serious answer, TYPE correctly so people can understand you, and take you seriously...As for the race parts, i thought any race part on your bike voids the warranty.. thats the risk isn't it. |

For them to void your warranty, they would have to prove that to modifacation you made had somthing to do with the problem you are having. ie. If you put an exhaust on the bike and the instrument cluster failed that would not be cause for a voided warranty, however if you did a self made tune and the engine blew up becuase of a lean condition or detonation then then the warranty would be void on the engine |

I'm sure Ohsoslow is correct with regard to the spirit of the warranty process but I'm not convinced that it follows the letter of the agreement.. Unfortunately much of that is down to the dealer. I once had a warranty made void by an over zealous dealer who went out of his way to "prove" my blown engine (on a Jap bike) happened on a track and get Yamaha to refuse to do the work. I ended up going to an independent garage and they did the work and successfully claimed it back. Personally - I can't wait 2 years to modify my bike (2 weeks is a struggle!) so as soon as I see a pipe I like I'll buy it and fit it. I'll get the 620 mike check out of the way first though LOL |

read the manual...pg 159-166 or https://www.buell.com/om/99480-08Y_en/ read the extended warranty policy before you buy it. (Message edited by therealassmikeg on January 19, 2010) |

My dealer fitted a Micron, a Drummer, a steering dampner ... x 1000 to my Firebolt and didn't give me any hassles with warranty. I chose to use the dealer to fit them so there was no demarcation. I'll do the same with my 1125R. In fact better dealers buys Drummers off me to fit to new bikes XB and 1125. They are the dealers that aren't keen on Jardines and D&D which are the easiest systems to get. Most dealers would have starved to death without Vance and Hines. Every Buell is just waiting to be different. |

IN the end your dealer is the biggest deciding factor on whether you can maintain your warranty or not... thankfully MOST dealers are reasonable. (Message edited by justa4banger on January 19, 2010) |

don't know what's sadder 1) a person who really can't spell or 2) someone who chooses to spell incorrectly cause he/she thinks it's cool. I'm not exactly Noah Webster, but I would suggest you spell correctly if you are going to bag on someone for spelling...'Sadder'? I had my '99M2 stock and it was a bitch to have them fix a broken muffler clamp and an oil consumption issue under warranty. Buell themselves and other dealers gave me the run around. A dealer finially fixed the leaky intake valve guide seal without asking first and it was covered. The dealer you deal with will be your best/worst friend in this situation. |

>>>The dealer you deal with will be your best/worst friend in this situation. That's a true fact. And be mindful that the reason some folks get what either may be, or may be perceived to be as, "the runaround" is because so many folks have tried to snooker the dealers and companies on the warranty. Deep down inside we all know that once you change the pipe or ECM, once you have "reconfigured" the motor from it's designed state you have compromised (you may argue that you've enhanced it . . that's cool) the "fitness for purpose" (the legal term that will be used) and asking the manufacturer to warranty it is a bit silly. Would you warranty something that someone took and modified? Of course not. In addition, I'm sure most folks are dandy mechanics but frankly a significant amount of "performance mods" are ill conceived and even less well executed. The use of electronics has enabled a new breed of "mods" and now anyone with the proper connector and some software written by a college student can screw their bike up nearly beyond recovery. Warranty stuff has quite a bit to do with good old fashion common sense . . . which . . unfortunately . . .has become "old fashioned". No one . . . Magnuson-Moss notwithstanding . . is going to deny a claim for a wheel bearing because you changed an exhaust. On the other hand . . . . the pure foolishness of the myriad of threads about folks who are going to put the stock ECM or pipe back on to try to get warranty coverage speaks volumes for the character of the folks companies deal with, and defend themselves against, daily. The good news is that there are plenty of bikes out there to provide a pretty good sample of what happens and does not happen in actual use. When I bought my first S1, we took it out of the crate, never started it and did $15,000+ worth of mods. Everything from the flywheel to polishing every cast part on the bike. I knew damn wheel that there was no warranty. It's a matter of personal integrity and responsibility. You dealer . . . in fact . . is your best friend in a warranty situation right up there with your personal honesty and integrity. |

For me that's part of getting the dealer to do the mods. Mine is going to tell me if I use parts that push the bike out of warranty. Part of common sense is having your dealer "know" your bike. I've seen threads of people denied warranty on a stator because they think the dealer was unreasonably in saying that they 2 55W driving lights had overloaded the charging system. Fact is that they had. I broke the clutch cable wireform after 18 months. The clutch cable was fried on the headers, big hole in it etc. The wireform was covered under warranty, the cable wasn't so I replaced it myself. My dealer made the claim it was H-D Australia that refused it. Warranties are a fickle thing and dealers can't do everything. Best to have one that is reasonable at least. |
