I love the ZX12, I love the 1K Gixxer, I own an S1 and am poor. But I am happy enough. Some day I'll own all of them together and have a museum. Is this board working again. Being at SacBorg filled me with shit for another year.

Mikeyp, That is so freaking funny that you have a Buell tatoo, and now have such hostility towards them. Hillarious! I can not top that. Your creative use of all the "suck" expressions was quite impressive as well. Perhaps you should get "sucks" added to your Buell tatoo? I know RC51's are badass, no one will argue that or has to my knowledge. I would rather ride an S1, no question about it. Keep on "suckin" dude, that post was kind of funny. I dare you to get an "RC51" tatoo. hahaha |

All - Very sad news from the Isle of Man today: It is with regret that the organisers of the Isle of Man TT Races, the Auto-Cycle Union, announce that David Jefferies, of Baildon in West Yorkshire, who crashed on the second lap of this afternoon's practice session, received injuries, which proved fatal. Thirty-year-old Jefferies was involved in an incident at Crosby. The red flag was displayed at the Grandstand and all riders finishing their first laps were brought back into the paddock. Those who had already embarked on their second lap were halted at Glen Vine. Jefferies was the outright lap record holder at the TT and had lapped at 125mph on his first lap today riding his 1000cc Temple Auto Salvage GSXR Suzuki. The organisers have instituted an immediate enquiry into the details of the incident. Godspeed, Dave.

Blake here's my best side... Chadly. I do hold some hostility towards Buell. Only because they could be so much more than what they are. Believe it or not, i still enjoy my Buell. It's just i don't expect to much from it. It is what it is. I don't make excuses for it. It's a pile of junk, but MY pile of junk. No doubt about it, i get more looks and thumbs up while on my S1W. It has great poser value, just like Harley Davidsons. As for getting a suck added under my pegasus Tat, that would be a good idea, but i went through enough pain in my Buell ownership. Don't need any more. Let me ask you a question. How long have you been riding, and how many bikes have you owned, and list them. Just want to know your background a little. |

NO MORE HERO'S I met DJ once, briefly, at Squires Coffee bar. Saw him race at Cadwell Park too. What with Barry and now Dave gone, I'm so fucking pissed off! Sorry for swearing but I just ain't got any biking hero's left. Dave Jefferies was a great example of a true Yorkshireman and for such a heavy fella he had a talent on a bike that had to be seen to be believed. Always modest in victory and a great sportsman when beaten and a really well liked bloke by all that knew him. You know something, we toss it around together a lot on Badweb, each and everyone of us, with a different opinion here and sometimes agreeing there, but I'm not open for argument on this one, us Brit's have lost one of the worlds best riders and yet DJ wasn't really on the world stage. I'd not ten minutes since just finished reading some of his pre-TT interview in MCN and how he was hoping to crack the 130 TT lap, then I saw Russ's post above. I'm absolutely ******* gutted. Terrible terrible news. Rocket |

Aaron, I have been thinking about your post regarding your record holding Buell that will beat a Gix 1K. I have a few questions, for instance; 1. Will it corner? 2. How much in dollars and time have you invested? 3. Is it street legal? Just curious, the obvious point I'm trying to convey here is the affordability of a cheap Japanese motorcycle, an '03 Gix is a marvelous bike that costs $9.5K with exceptional power and handling, right out of the box. Blake, you can chime in here too, please. How much do you have invested, time and money, in your track ready (but streetable) M2? Its my assumption that the Gix, a production machine, will give your modifieds all they want, and probably beat them on a road track. For less money. Paul |

Sean, I watched extensive coverage of the TT last year for the first time, and was awed by David Jeffries' performance. I'm speechless hearing he's gone. Stop and smell the roses doesn't seem like such a cliche after all. |

Mikeyp, I am 31, had go carts and dirtbikes as a kid, and since I've had my license, I've had a CB650, and a KZ1000. The only newer Japanese crotch rockets I've ever spent any substantial amount of time on were an 89 ZX7, a 90 CBR600, and a 01 R6. I got my 97 S1 almost 4 years ago, stripped painted(my friend painted it) and refurbished it. Its pretty mild, 82 foot pounds on the dyno, but that's all I need as its just a fun bike. I just bought a 98 S1 frame and title that I plan on building into a much meaner ride. I enjoy wrenching on the bikes as much as riding them. Oh yeah, I have a 1980 Yamaha TT250, also, for riding the trails around the house. Impressive, huh?<(sarcastic) I am just an average recreational biker who can handle a wrench. No, I never raced motorcycles in an organized fashion, except BattleTrax.

I just wanted to shed some light on this whole "Buells are straight Crap" rhetoric. Check this site out: <http://pub114.ezboard.com/fyamahar6messagenetfrm39>. It seems the illustrious Yam R6 is giving its owners a very hard time. I do not think there is a motorcycle out there that is really maintenance free. When I saw this, I was grateful the only thing wrong with my X1 were it's squeaking brakes. How about faulty gears, new engines, bad wiring, issues with 60 miles on the clock, and more for R6 owners. I really think those that have had many problems resort to the internet as relief group to help cope with their Buell related problems, not that there's anything wrong with that. Hey my brakes are still squeaking. But how many people out there have a good reliable Buell that never lets them down. No one answered my question last time. Who out there rides their Buell moderately. By that I mean no track events, wheelies, donuts, wheel-stands, tire changes every month, and the such. I would think that if you ride moderately you will fix moderate problems... |

Iamsaeedalsahaf, That site is scary! Clutch bolts coming loose, transmission problems, valve cover gaskets and the battery leaks! Everybody's battery leaks. So the battery leaks, just need to replace the battery and swingarm! I'd be terrified to back it out of the garage! |

Charles says: "I do not think there is a motorcycle out there that is really maintenance free." You're right of course, but................. Triumph is pretty close! My boy just finished a near 3,000 mile, six day trip on a Speed Triple with no problems. We each have 12,000 miles on our bikes with a grand total of ZERO problems. I think Triumph has achieved a near perfect combination of dependability and performance. My Sprint RS and the kids S-3 are super fast and super dependable. They handle great, sound good and don't cost too much. That makes for a pretty good deal overall! |

MCN Dave Jefferies I feel for those at the TT. It's a real downer for all. The TT has lost Joey Dunlop (in Estonia) 2000, then 'foot and mouth' cancelled 2001 so when DJ cracked the 125 lap last year it was just what was needed. DJ was destined for TT greatness beyond his 9 victories. I dunno if these things are worth dying for but what a great way to go I suppose. Rocket |

Just eats at you guys, don't it, knowing a Buell did this and your Japanese hyper bikes can't Cecil's even on a quest to find someone with a faster Kawasaki! 'Course, I know someone with a nitro Harley, so I can play that game too. Eventually we'll end up at the world's fastest motorcycle, and lemme see, what was that again? Oh yeah, it's a Harley! C'mon, Paul, you know I'm just yankin your chain. I would never in a million years argue that the Gixxer is anything but a superb race rep motorcycle. But hey, if you're gonna come over here and preach the virtues of race reps over streetfighters and your bike over mine, you're gonna have to put up with me pointing who's bike is faster! |

Rocket, Sucks to lose such a great rider. Somehow though, dying doing what he loved so damn much had to count for something. Snail, I've probably got about ten grand in the Cyclone (I stole it from a guy on ebay) and it won't come close to touching a GSXR1000 on the track or in a high speed chase. But come on, no one is delusional here. No one here bought a Buell thinking it was the cheapest, or the fastest, or the most reliable motorcycle on the planet. I bought mine after test riding a well tuned S1 with a KT pipe. I bought mine cause I really dig the way it looks, the way it shakes and bellers, the utter dichotomy of a big hairy American V-Twin crammed into a refined sport bike chassis, the way when I remove the fuel tank, it appears to me like a piece of fine art that would be just as much at home mounted on the wall behind glass as it is atop the bike blasting around the track or down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Everything about the bike reflects my personality, right down to the piss poor seat pan that digs into my pelvis on long rides, the big underslung muffler, and unconventional rear shock. If I ever manage to bust the engine, I'll take great pleasure in it's repair, making it even better and in having a chance to tidy up all the borg-like entrails strung all over the place in the starter bay. The bike simply rocks. It is a gnarly beast with a shiny skin. I just don't care for a bunch of plastic covering my motorcycle. I like mine naked. I like to see the engine and it's form. When I twist the throttle, I like to feel the handlebars try to jump out of my grip. When I am cruising down the road at 80 mph I like the relaxing thrum of the big V-Twin turning just under 4K rpm. The sound of an IL4 grates on my brain, especially the smaller ones. I need two cylinders, low revs, and big torque. Given its relatively long stroke, I could probably enjoy owning a GSXR1000, but I'd rather have a naked version than the racer replica version. Why own a Buell?... I like not having to adjust the lifters/valves or oil a chain or keep up with a radiator. I like having a carburetor and just one of them. I like the lone speedometer, no tach, 40/65/90/110 those are my shift points on the track. At OHR I never get into 5th so I only need to remember 40/65/90. And I know you don't hold to such ideals, but I get a LOT of satisfaction knowing that I'm riding somewhat of an underdog, and aberration, an American sport bike designed and built by an American Engineer and ex AMA road racer who had the balls to build a bike that challenged convention. Hell, it sent convention on its head. But I'd love to take your GSXR for a blast along the Oregon coast.
