Why would you want to remove the cush drive? It reduces vibration. |

Blur, I thought that same thing. Then I realized that he is probably just talking about how to get it off the bike with the intention of replacing it. I don't think he is planning to get rid of it altogether unless he is doing a chain conversion. |

Just want to take it off temporarily. I'm preparing some cool aftermarket stuff =) |

Oh, well that makes sense haha. I haven't taken the wheel off the 1125 yet so I can't tell you exactly but if you remove the rear wheel it should be pretty straight forward. When I was working on a XB this summer I was surprised to find out it didn't have a cush drive. On jap bikes its easy, just pull the sprocket off. |

there is a thread on here somewhere that has pics of modding the rear wheel cush drive with spacers to take out some of the slop. |

The cush drive in of the front sprocket. I don't have my service manual in front of me right now. When I get back from work tonight if no one has posted how I will post up the instructions. |

I have the service manul and it requires a special tool which is supposed to be pretty expensive. So i need a solutionbto lock the pulley without the tool |

In order to crack the countershaft pulley just take the rod to a jack, wrap it in a towel and stick it between the wheel over the swingarm. I'm not sure how the cush drive is layed out but this will work if trying to get the front pulley off. Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the 1125 just yet. It got too cold before I could do much tinkering. |

So I think i have heard mention of this before but is there a cush drive in the rear wheel and another connected to the front sprocket somehow? |

no cush in the rear... the cush is the front pulley. |

Locking the back wheel with a bar with the bike in gear is fine for a bike with chain drive. I'm not sure I'd do it on a belt drive bike though.. In fact I know I wouldn't do it on mine... |

Has anyone got a picture of the front sprocket mounted on the bike to hand? Is there a large central nut holding it on? If so an air impact wrench should knock it off easily without any need to lock anything... I used that all the time on my jap bikes... |

Ok - found one http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_0711_buell_112 5r/photo_05.html I'd be tempted to try the air impact wrench on that.. |

Yes of course Jules but the issue here is how to fix the pulley from rotating without the expensive HD tool. |

I've never needed to fix the pulley when using an air impact wrench, it starts so quickly it tends to spin the nut free without the shaft needing to be locked in place. I've taken lots of sprockets off bikes that way, just put the bike in gear.. A combination of locking the rear wheel and an air wrench would probably do the job and put a lot less strain on the belt than just jamming the rear wheel alone.. |

I agree I have always knocked the nut loose on my prev. bikes with the bike in gear using an impact wrench. I also would leave the chain on and hold the rear brake on just to make sure not to bang the gears in the trans around too much but it usually comes loose so fast it's not a big deal. |

A beach towel tightly wrapped and stuffed around any toothed diameter works wonders. Good trick on alternators to BTW... Remove the belt! Take out of gear! Use air impact gun and walla! mm |

There are electric ones on the market too.. I know that may sound like i am being difficult but it's amazing how much use you can find for one if you have one.. Wheel changes on my car now take a fifth of the time they took before.. If the bike is still "together" and the rear wheel is on and belt still on then you could just jam the wheel as mentioned before and use a long handled wrench... Just because I wouldn't do it that way doesn't mean it wouldn't work. The modified oil filter wrench (using an old belt) idea sounds good if you have a strong friend to try to hold the pulley while you spin the nut... |

the long handled ratchet with a bar in the wheel against the swingarm worked for me when i put the chain drive swingarm on my 1125. tim |

andros, If you have a friend or wife or g/f around you can just have them hold the rear brake on as well..... same principal there. |
