Just rode my bike for the first time and find the fuel light is on so attempt to fill tank only to find there is room for half a gallon. Also check engine light is now on. I have ridden the bike a total of 1/4 of a mile. I understand that the engine light is just showing that an event has taken place. I also believe that you can somehow display these event codes. I have been reading lots of threads on the codes but have not been able to find out how to display them. Do you need some kind of display or do you get lights flashing to indicate the error. Sorry to sound stupid but this is all new to me and all my local dealers are shut and I just want to go out and ride my new bike |

its happened to me, and several others...there is a simple warranty fix availble. im guessing its cold out, and this happens when the bike is cold..after it warms up both lights will go off. it wont hurt to ride the bike. ride a couple of miles, and both lights will go off. |

To check codes turn the bike on while holding down both mode and toggle button. Then you can scroll through the menu with the toggle button I think. |

Thanks for your comments Reducati having worried about it for the last couple of hours I had just thought a gentle couple of miles around the block would do no harm and the lights might go out. Will try to check the codes also - thanks Westmoorenerd |

My fuel light sometimes stays on a while but after a mile or 2 it goes off. It has only been like this since its been cold as others have said. |

This has been discussed on other threads. It is a software glitch in the instrument cluster. It generally only happens when it's cold but it can be fixed if you go into the dealer and have them give you the latest instrument cluster, it will be covered under warranty. If the dealer is hesitant on giving you a new cluster, have them call tech services. They will authorize it since they know it is an issue. |

Thanks all for your help. As you said both light went out within 300 yards of leaving home on the second journey and have not come back on since. Also had a look at the diagnostic codes and there were errors on both the fuel system and the fuel light. Need to look more into these codes. |

You probably had B1005 which is to signify an open circuit on the low fuel light circuit. The problem comes from the the cluster getting confused when the temperatures are too cold and the low fuel sensor "looks" like an open circuit because the resistance is too high. As stated before this is a glitch in the cluster software and is fixed in the latest cluster software version. |

If you go to the last screen in the diagnostic menu it should list the software and cal version if the cluster is new enough. Otherwise it is labeled on the back of the cluster. (Message edited by tibman260 on January 17, 2010) |

Mine must be to old because it doesn't say on-screen mfg. Dec '08 wonder if Jay has the same one as me? |

Confirmed, my NEW new dash (just had it replaced not even 6 months ago) is on order. Older dashes don't show the SW version and therefore, must be replaced. FYI, you can keep the diagnostics on while riding if you disconnect the speed-sensor. Doing so will cause your bike to not register distance traveled and will also eventually throw an engine code about no speed signal (duh). Your tach will also light up over 5K (by design). |
