I was installing my Jardine fender eliminator and new turn signals. I was testing the signals before I made my final connection to make sure everything worked. The power Wire touched the frame and blew the fuse. I replaced the fuse and finished what I was doing. When I went to ride the bike, the odometer was at 0 miles. I confirmed it was the odometer I was looking at. Trip 1 and 2 read the same mileage as the odometer. The fuse that needed to be replaced was the rear fuse in the left row of the fuse box under the seat. Does someone else want to pull that fuse out and replace it and see what happens? Everything else on the bike works fine. I had to reset the time on the clock because the cluster lost power when the fuse blew. |

Cant answer your question but isnt the mileage stored in the ECU and not the cluster? |

It is stored in both the ECM and cluster. I am wondering if it will sync back up. |

If not, remember what you did for when you trade the bike in......

How many miles were on the cluster before this happened? Did you ever replace your cluster? |

Just under 900 miles and the cluster is original. |

That's very odd. The mileage is usually stored in the cluster. Even if the battery is pulled or the power is lost it should still be stored. I don't find it likely that it would be stored in both the cluster and the ECM but it could. I would contact a service advisor and see what they say. |

This might be the first 'problem' thread that I've ever read and then thought, "Wow, I hope my bike does that too!" Mike |

Try disconnecting the battery for a minute and then reconnect it. Then check to see if your mileage comes back. Does the mileage reset every time you turn off your bike? |

It doesnt reset every time I turn the bike off. Just that one time. It now shows 41 miles on the bike. It is counting the miles right. Does anyone want to pull that fuse and see what happens? I cant imagine this is supposed to happen if power is lost through that fuse. |

Mike, is your profile correct in that you have an 08 bike? What software version is your cluster running? You can check it by going into your cluster's diagnostic menu and scrolling to the last page, it will give you a sw and cal number if the cluster is new enough. If it doesn't and you feel adventurous you can unbolt the cluster from the bike and it should have its cluster sw version printed on the back. |

Your cluster and your ECM hold both your mileage and your VIN. The cluster is the dominant partner between the two unless the cluster is new. |
