Ok, I admit to being old, and my memory is as long as my ........never mind. I just picked up a red 08 XT with about 7000 miles, it's running on 1 cylinder. I remember there's a way to attempt to clean the plugs by holding something on while you turn something else or something blah blah blah.. HELP!!!! | ||

I've heard rumors of the 'way to clean the plugs', but have never seen any specific instructions. I just bought new Iridium plugs in hopes that I won't have any more issues. | ||

Im sure its just the 1125's that have the automatic spark plug clean. Think the one your thinking of is the auto TPS reset. | ||

The 08-up XBs have the built-in spark plug cleaning sequence as well. From a factory service bulletin previously posted:
I don't know how much success people have had with this but it's certainly worth a try. | ||

It has worked for me when the plugs were fairly new. At 10,000 miles it didn't work and I had to pull the plugs and clean them. With 7,000 on your bike, I'd put new plugs in anyways. Oh, and the 10,000 fouled plugs were Iridium. But, I'm replacing mine with Iridium again. | ||

So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I went out this morning to load the Uly on the truck and haul it up tho the dealer to get the plugs changed, and I thought I'd try the plug clearing method one last time, and lo and behold, it worked!!!! Started right up, idled a little rough, so I pulled on my helmet and gloves and took a ride! Wheelied out the driveway, wow, I forgot how easily these little bastahds would do that! Rode for about 6 miles at within a hair of redline, and it's runs great!!! I had forgotten how much fun this thing is!! WOW! | ||

The first time I demo rode an XT it ran on one cylinder for the entire 20 mile group ride. (I couldn't go fast enough to tell anyone lol) Got back to the dealer and a tech ran through the process described above. After a couple seconds there was an audible pop followed by a puff of smoke out of the airbox. No more fouled plug and she ran like a champ the rest of the day. Six months later there was an XT in my garage! | ||
