I heard about the .225 gage chain tensioner. How much would a dealership ask to install one? I'm pretty good with a wrench, so I think I might do it my self. Anyone out there replaced their tensioner on their own? On a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult can it be?

Thanks, Saeed

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! What a difference a few years makes. Some things change.......and some things don't.

When they finally fall below $4000, maybe $3500, I may pick myself up a S1W. But this time around it will be with "eyes wide open."

And really, with all the banter about racer reps vs Buells etc.... just have the discussion with your eyes wide open. The bike is what it is. Make it out to be something it's not at your own peril. Or should I say your wallet's peril?

I second Snail's comments. That Gix is just the sickest, easiest thing to ride on the planet. Intuitive in the turns if you ask me. And my experience is with the old model.

Penis jokes aside, close to 180 street legal horsepower on two wheels is something that you simply MUST experience to appreciate. Don't knock it til you try it. Just be careful.

Don't worry all, I'm leaving now. Has it really been 2 years?

I was looking through my service records and it seems I already have a .250 gage tensioner. Nelly says "UhOhooooo". I think my primary is a little lose. I'm having a new rear tire installed next week so I will have the dealership check it out. What about the squeaking brakes? The pads and rotor were just replaced...

Mike,
I wish I still had that picture so I could introduce Chad to your good side.

I gotta say though, it boggles my mind how you had such bad luck with the front brake warping.
I've punished mine beyond anything you'd see on the street and never had any brake problems. Must be your warped sense of humor or something.

Brian,
Don't count on the S1's ever going any lower. Besides, if you buy one, you know you'll want the engine totally sico-sized and worked over, 100", 120 FT*LB/150 rwhp with the 6-speed baker tranny. Your ZX12R would be tame by comparison.

Seriously though, if you known what you are getting, a Buell is a damn cool bike to have. Just don't try to bargain piecemeal it to high performance. Do it right and send it to Nallin Racing or, if Pammy will take your business, to Cycle-Rama and get it done RIGHT. It makes ALL the difference.

Ok, lets see, need 120 RWHP? see Cyclerama or Nallin, costs what ? $3-10000 tops? add $7000 for a brand new M2, $2300 for a reverse shock setup, $2300 for a one sided swingarm, $1000 for a cheap paint job, cherry black with the "rocky horror picture show" lips, (for Mikeyp) $100 or so for the neon lighting to make the 2fast&2dumb crowd happy....
Have I cost you more than a V-Rod yet???
(dang it Blake, you beat me!)

Ok, 1 more post.

Blake, you want to know my honest advice to everyone out there? The same advice I'd take if I were to actually subject myself to the experience known as Buell ownership again. I'd have the top end done with stock T-Storm heads and pistons with maybe a slight polish job. Put together correctly with some James gaskets and TLC. That's it. It is what it is.

I have the utmost respect for Nallinization and even Cyclerama's stuff. However, my wallet doesn't have the tolerance. At approximately $60 per cylinder and $250 for a head, how can you go wrong, within the realm of it being a Buell that is. And the best part is, I still have tons of parts lying around in my garage.

I'm getting a new 600 first though. That CBR600RR is a pretty thing.

Speaking of brakes, I had two rotors warp on me also, both were cast iron. Dunno why. The second one was replaced by the factory (at no cost to me) during Homecoming 2000 and it has been fine ever since.
Next. Does anyone know if they make a Wave rotor, the ones that are mostly air, for the XB series? It seems like such a light rotor would be ideal for the ZTL brake set up. It should help to lighten up the steering that some people complain about.

MikeP,
Too funny! Nice to see you posting back here again.
Even if it to "rant".
Bestet, funniest rant I've seen in a long time.
I wonder if any of the newer posters here got any of the Buell sucksism's you threw in.
I especially liked the Buell (sucksashavedsack) regarding Cecil, that destined to be a classic.

I gotta go get the windex to clean my monitor.

Thanks for the laugh!

Brian,

Dude, you are not getting it. The stock cylinders are what hosed you in the first place. They really aren't that great. The Milleniums are the ticket. You probably won't believe me but I actually tried to blow up my engine during the last race. Coming out of turn four and getting set to short shift into 4th gear at about 80 mph heading downhill into turn 6, there appears this dumb ass track official riding an XR100 right along the outside of the track. My brain kinda freaked for a split second and I forgot about the GP shifting. I hit 2nd gear at 80 mph. F#@K!!!! I thought the engine was gone for sure. Nope. That's what I call proof testing. The thing is as tight and solid as ever. From then on I just left her in 3rd unless the rev limiter loomed. Four more laps and passing five slow guys and I gained a whole new respect for what a quality engine builder can do. By the time I got the bike off the track after the cool down lap and into the paddock and up on the truck, got my leathers off, the oil temperature in the aluminum tank was still registering 245oF! That is smiking hot considering the near 2 mile cool down lap and time after it had to cool. Yeah, a 100" engine will cost some serious bones. But certainly you can plan to afford three additional large for a 100rwhp S1 that will run and last like it should. Polishing doesn't do diddly except make things shiny.

Aside from the fact that I'm not a big fan of IL4's, I could maybe like the RR except for the bung hole looking tail pipe. The thing looks like it's in heat and assuming the position. Besides, I think the ZX6R is a better race bike. RRW liked it better anyway. The best bike for the track though is one that is already prepped and ready to go. A nice SV with sharkskinz and all the track stuff can be had for $5K. You'll end up putting another $2K into a new bike just to get it track ready. If you are truly on a budget, go with a used track bike and just ride it. Then if you like the track scene, you can always sell it for nary a loss and move up to something faster. You WILL be tossing the bike down the track, better one that already has some scars and didn't cost $8 grand eh? Seriously, get the idea of a shiny new poser bike out of your head. Your wallet can thank me later.

Aaron, not with the same sized shot of giggle gas it aint !!
Besides, the Nallins are the only ones on the planet crazy engouh to ride yer Buell. Good on ya though, you got the fastest one on the planet. Ya bringing her out to World of Speed this year?

120RWHP? $3000? = ZRX1200.

Still like my Buell though. We'll see if she gets me to Fort Bragg and back next month without a hitch. Gotta trailer on stand-by just in case.

Hey, anyone got any idea if the V-Rod engine is going to be the SOLE Hardley Ableson engine in the line-up when the evil EPA requirements kick in? Is something else in the works? Will the Chrome and Tassle crowd run away from HD and back to the garage to hug their Evo's and TC88's?

Chop,
Yeah, but 120RWHP on a Buell feels like a ton of bricks slamming into your chest right off idle. And the front wheel is like a mousetrap through third gear. Aaron may not really know what kind of beast he has wrought. He's been riding his 120SAE RWHP Cyclone around at 6,000 FT ASL, so he may be getting an actual 100RWHP. Bring that thing down to near sea level and hold on! I'm telling you. I've ridden such a bike on two occassions. Friggin thing will scare the crap out of you wacking the throttle open from just 3 grand in second gear. The big Busa and ZX12R come on much more gently, more civilized. The Buell wants to humiliate you. Yeah... I want one. :]

Chop,
We'll all pay homage to the muffler hanger and rockerbox gasket demons. I still haven't shared what I went through on my last touring adventure. The bike was possessed for sure. It did get me home fine though, just a little freaked out.

BTW,
We are moving the site to our new dedicated server and implmenting a MySQL database tomorrow. Is it cool if I set up a surrogate BadWeB page on SacBORG until the new server goes online and the ISP name servers see it? You have plenty of bandwidth right? We'll be down starting around 8 or 9 am tomorrow through the early afternoon (it's an actual physical move). Of course access depends upon the individual ISP's updating their name servers.

Chop,
Slap a EFI and a catalytic converter on the big air cooled lumps and they'll do just fine. They already get great fuel mileage which is a big help toward meeting EPA emissions requirements right from the start. I predict that the HD air cooled mill will remain viable for a very long time.

I found my pics from the January IMC show in Minneapolis.
I started a Quick Board section for the pictures.

Attention!

We will be moving the site to its own dedicated big bore server as well as implementing some significant BBS enhancements later this morning. The site will be offline starting between 8AM and 9AM. You may be able to continue to view the forum, but not post. If you are still getting the view-only forum by late afternoon, say 5PM, you might want to try refreshing your browser window and even shutting down and restarting your computer. If that doesn't work you might call your ISP, especially if it is a small local operation, and ask them to update their DNS (domain name server) files.

In the mean time I've asked the guys at SacBORG if they would be gracious enough to host a temporary surrogate BadWeB forum on their site. Just be forewarned that there are some very... uh... antagonistic Buell hating trolls there. Hopefully they'll leave well enough alone. If not, feel free to humiliate them with truth and grace. If you don't see a surrogate BadWeB topic there, assume it was not to be. I cannot imagine that since in truth, BadWeB is the Father of SacBORG, our illegitimate son. Kinda like the Darth/Luke scenario in reverse. LOL. Anyway, Chop and Eeeeek are great guys as are most of the others who hang there, so wish our sys-admin luck and I hope to see you back here tomorrow afternoon.

Blake

I'm new to this board and was wondering what it cost's to join the MikeyP(suckmycockanytime) and Cecil(lickmyballedballsanytime) fan club?

I was wondering though, is it true your Buell(greatlivingroomfurniture) has to be fubar to get in the club? Ah great, that's ok, I qualify.

Who do I send the cheque to?

Chop: excuses, excuses! FACT: my BUELL is faster than a ZX12, a 'busa, or a GSXR1000, even without the laughing gas. Why would I want to step down to one of them things?

Seriously, though, the fact that they've brought near race level performance (but not as fast as my Buell) to EPA legal street bikes, at that level of quality and reliability and price, is remarkable. I just don't want to ride race bikes on the street, that's all. Obviously not everyone feels that way. Whatever floats your boat.

I've got two friends who have ZRX1200's. 107-110rwhp, both of them. My M2 will eat either of'em for lunch. Them things are about 6 feet wide, front heavy as can be, and have mediocre handling at best. They remind me of the CB750 I sold in 1979. Bolt-together frame on the right side, now there's a stiff design. No thanks. Gimme a twin any day. I shouldn't have to explain that to you Mr. Mille!

Choices in naked streetfighter/standard twins are slim. I liked TL-S's a lot, the SV less. I really think I've got the right one for me. I enjoy the hell out of'em. They sure as hell ain't for everyone, though, no question about that.
