Here in AZ, we have access to 100 and 110 unleaded gas. Manual says only use 91. Do the high rated gases harm the engine? | ||

stock tune probably not.It will harm your 02s if its leaded.It makes your gas mileage go up and your bike runs way smoother | ||

Dont bother, it will empty your wallet faster and if it is leaded may damage the O2 sensors. | ||

Um, he didn't say leaded, he said unleaded. It's a waste of money. You want the minimum octane that doesn't cause pinging/detonation, etc. | ||

Ridenusa41-- I believe there are several other places, but where I found it is on Ajo and Contractors way. And it is unleaded. $3-$4 for the 100 and $5 for 110, a gallon. It think its called FIREBIRD. Not to far from the U. BTW- in Tucson | ||

I don't believe there is anymore combustion energy in 110 octane than there is in 87 octane. It's just able to handle a higher compression without detonation. If it ain't knockin', don't bother paying the extra for it. | ||

I ran a tank of Cam2 through in my '98 1200 Sportster Sport last season...Noticed the difference...smelled good too. I figured it was my birthday so wtf! | ||

i run supper unleaded in the uk its 99ron there is a 102ron but hard toget hold of i run all my buells on it and they luv it ,no problems ever £1.15 LT  | ||

Depends on how you look at it. 99% of the people will see the slight fuel economy drop and higher price and complain, yet the fuel burns much cleaner and is better for the environment. It is next to impossible to find non-ethanol gas in the north east these days due to state regulations. | ||

You will generally see a little drop in mileage when using Ethanol blends, but I buy it at every opportunity. 1. My dad is a corn grower 2. In Iowa it's less $$ than regular unlead | ||

I don't believe there is anymore combustion energy in 110 octane than there is in 87 octane. higher octane does not mean more combustion energy rather the higher the octane the easier the fuel will atomize in the air creating a better burn witch in turn will make some more power and more fuel mileage providing you dont turn the grip harder lol | ||

If you want your exhaust (No not your farts!) to smell like Root Beer, Cotton Candy, Bubble Gum etc. there are several places that sell fuel fragrance additives. For example: http://www.street-dreams.us/catalog.php?Category=F uel+Fragrances Higher octanes only slow the burning process to prevent detonation. If you don't have detonation/pinging problems they won't do a thing for you. If you do a lot of slow/stop and go riding on hot days with an air cooled engine and no fan higher octane might help. I use 98RON fuel whenever I can. The couple of times I have been stuck using 95RON the bike is noticeably soft, and has trouble starting and idling. James | ||

Ethanol has only 2/3 the btu output for an equivalent volume of gasoline. So a gallon of gas with 10% ethanol WILL get less mileage than a gallon of straight gasoline. btu output of ethanol: 80,000 btu/gallon btu output of gasoline: 119,000 btu/gallon The approx btu output of a 10% ethanol gasoline mix: 10% X 80,000 btu for ethanol (8000 btu) + 90% X 119000 btu for gasoline (107100) = total btu 115100 for 10% ethanol blended gas. 115,100/119000 = .97 so there WILL be a 3% loss of mileage, whatever you driving habits (when compared to a gallon of 100% gasoline) 3% X 3.00 per gallon of gas (in Western NY) = 9 cents Unless you are paying nine cents less per gallon for gasoline with 10% ethanol, then you're losing money. Add in the fact that your tax dollars are subsidizing ethanol fuel production and it's an even worse deal. | ||

82UL AVgas has no lead, but good luck finding it. Like Family Buells pointed out, I think ETHANOL SUCKS! It may depend on the State you are in too, on if you can find ethanol free gas. Some states passed laws making ethanol mandatory. If you do not like it write a letter to your senator and governor. You might be surprised at how seriously they take letters from individual voters. Anyway, use the 91 octane like the manual says and buy something cool w/cash you'll be saving.  | ||

I started thinking about how a 3% loss would make a difference so I figured out how the mileage loss would affect our team in an endurance race: Using race gas with no alcohol, we would run an hour an a half before pitting for fuel. That's approximately 70 laps at Nelson Ledges which is a two mile long track. That comes out to 140 miles. 140mi X 3%(loss using ethanol blended fuel) = 4.2 miles! Thats more than two laps! We knew we were on the edge of running out of gas at 1.5 hours and there's no way that I'd give up two laps worth of reserve using gas blended with ethanol. |
