sorry to ask a question that has probably been asked before, but I just need to know if the older xb air box covers will work on an 1125r? I've asked dealers, aftermarket guys and noone will give me a straight answer. Thanks in advance. |

Hmmm think I may hot eBay and seek out a few different colours.. It's always handy to have a few spare panels in the garage... And if the cops happen to be looking for a "black bike" and I'm riding a red one, then clearly I'm not the man they're looking for.... |

All my bikes are titled as red. If I am on my blue bike and get pulled over "Yea officer, I turned it to blue about a month ago, I didn't get to the DMV and change it yet". Or if they get my plate "Officer, the description says its a blue bike, run the reg, my bike is red" Whats even more awesome is giving the registration for a 03 Blast when I am on my CR and the officer never thought twice. |

I normally either have a "stealth plate" (electrochromatic glass cover) or a speedflip fitted and very rarely stop for them nowadays... I know it's wrong, but when they stopped playing fair so did I... It's nice to be amongst like-minded people LOL |

Shame on me, but damn that'd be handy on the toll road. Not cheap but If you live somewhere with speed cameras they'd be a lifesaver. |

"They are the same." Not true. "All XB covers will work fine." True. I.e., the xb intake cover fits the 1125, but they are not the 'same' because there's an intake grille on the xb cover, near the petrol cap. I use an 1125 intake cover with the xb grille fitted in place of the solid piece; and have cut away the airbox just behind the grille so that the grille is functional. (Read the above carefully; the 'intake cover' and the 'airbox' are different bits.) My experience with the transparent intake covers from the xb is that they are very brittle and scratch (and break!) easily, being moulded from polycarbonate instead of nylon like the solid colour covers. |

and have cut away the airbox just behind the grille so that the grille is functional. .....and the Ram-air isn't.... I thought the airbox was supposed to stay sealed.. |

Mmmm, ram air isn't, absolutely. You do know that the so-called 'pressurised airbox' is at supra-legal speeds? If it works at all, which is arguable (according to my race dyno operator) I'm a commuter, so whether or not ram air is functional is not an issue for me. |

i thought someone made a post about having a reduced top speed when they removed the inner cover for the airbox...the speed difference was signifigant. like 160+ with and only 140 without. |

redscuell, the intake grill on the xb covers is the exact reason i asked the question, such a small change makes a HUGE difference in the appearance of the R. |

While that may have been what someone experienced, that sort of speed difference cannot be attributed to the lack of ram air effect. The ram air is probably only capable of increasing HP by a very small amount, certainly not enough to account for a 20MPH difference. |

Ya I read like a max of 5mph difference... |

5MPH... that may be the difference between outrunning the police chopper and not making it LOL I must admit I think I'll buy a spare airbox lid and do some experimenting on it in the summer, I ran my TL1000R without the airbox lid on and loved the sound but it did "feel" slower. Clearly there are a variety of approaches to owning any bike - some want the maximum horsepower they can achieve, some want the better aesthetics. I think the "clear" airbox outer covers look fantastic and think one of them with no inner lid and a K&N would look awesome up close... But I'm too much of a slave to speed to do that at the expense of top end... Although I could probably live with losing 5MPH off the top end...ummm probably.. |

not so much a concern as it is an anal retentive piece of my overall puzzle, I know it sounds silly, but thats the kind of stupid crap that keeps me awake at night! |
