The strap or clamp on the front of my muffler broke after removing it several times for mods and one good hang up on the sidewalk. I could not locate one locally and was looking for alternatives. I got tired of waiting and did not want to put new clamps on this old muffler so I fabricated the front mount replacing the stock stand off which holds the clamp. I took some pictures to share with you all. |

Nice fab job. I would double check that weld though. |

I've been thinking about doing something similar. Looks good. How did you get everything positioned? |

I out lined the original part ( Pink) and made the new part to mach the hole pattern. I just wanted the holes to match up without putting pressure on the headers. Just copy the shoe that is on there now. Get it close the tack it and see if it fits. Loosen the header clamp. It goes on at an angle but lines up perfect. |

good move there.i specifically made it a point to be sure my muffler mounted and had zero tension on the headers. keep an eye on it, mine cracked after a while and i had to re weld it.you dont want to join the muffler pole vaulting team |

I did ask around to see if any of the after market mounts broke. Looks pretty solid. Will not move forward or back. I do know the engine and muffler move together and need to be tight. Vibration is the enemy here. Definitely have to keep an eye on this monster. |

Wow! What a great idea. You would think the could have done that from the beginning. I just bought a new front strap a month ago. $17 @ HD. |

FYI... I sent Erik an email about breaking front muffler straps and hinting that I would be working on some type of spring designed strap. This was his reply... "We will be working on an engineered solution for this, but it will likely not be available until late spring. These parts act like the “fuse” in the system in race conditions, and although they may fail, other more expensive parts do not, and the failure is evident. There is great risk in simply experimenting with other solutions, as without a full analysis of this complex system, the solution is likely to fail and it may break parts that are more expensive or damaging to other parts." Probably not an issue for everday street riding, bt ya never know... |

Hey Paint_shaker I feel this make s the mount very solid but now the breaking area would definitely be worse. The tabs or ears on the muffler may stress crack and well it needs to be replaced. But to agree with Eric allot more focus is now on the engine cases. But what is inexpensive about replacing header bolts. The front clamp broke and was gone for some time before I knew it. From what I have read the front one goes and if gone unnoticed a header bolt is to follow. I will feel uncomfortable about it till I can afford Kevins Drummer SS. Hey Its on there and its not moving. Before I noticed some vibration and was in a hurry to clean it up. I did not want broken header bolts. I did notice something. There in front where the bolt goes through the case ( Goes through the case on one side only ) there are aluminum bushings one on each side of the ear. This ear is not very thick. |

I was just relaying the message... If your fix works w/o breaking anything that is a plus!! I have broken the front strap on nearly every race weekend. I have mounted it every which way you can imagine an it still breaks. No other problems to report. I only broke one once on the street bike and that was because it was overtightend upon installation. |
