Look closely, it's photoshopped. The motor is still in the chassis. One can buy a complete and decent RS for a little more than his asking price. |

Sorry guys, but I think if you were to do the math on all the parts that are there, plus the fact it is a "1992" RS1200, you would be very suprised to the fact that its a pretty good deal... Tell, me, where can you find a good complete front end like that, wheels, tank, dash and guages, etc etc ...I also think you will find, that with the rarity of these fantastic examples of Eriks work, that the prices of them is increasing now that Buell is a NO more !! I had a nice 1990, and was forced to sell it.... I would love to have a 5 speed model 1991-93.... My 1996 S2t is awesome, but you have to admit, an RS1200 is way kewl man... If the opp arrives, Ride One! Ask the MAN himself...Court C.... He will give ya the skinney on an RS.... Thats all I got to say about That!

Seller's first mistake, from a collector's standpoint, is (that) right now it has a matching numbers engine. If one considers the rarity of matching numbers collector bikes, say a Vincent, against what is called a "bitsa," or one that is a collection of parts with numbers different on engine, frame, and rear section (also numbered on Vincents), then this bike is of less value than an original. All the S2s that went to the knackers for chopper motors, with parts flogged on fleaBay, are in the same situation. On the other hand, sure, this is worth owning. But "more better" with it's original engine. I picked up an RR1200 front end for $400 on craigslist last summer. So, better deals are out there. |

regardless of cost and what else. That Chassis has been on ebay for at least 5 years on an off. SO that is all I have to say about that... |

If I remember that's the one that had the frame modified for racing, so somethings aren't how they are supposed to be. |

Just in case anyone here picks up the RS, I've got a black 2000 X1 engine that could move it It's got 25k miles on it and is disassembled. I planned on a simple rebuild with new rings and gaskets, but bought a Uly instead. There are no lifters, and I've got black pushrod covers from a 2002. Other than that, all the stock parts are there. Sorry for the post in Old School. At this point I'm not serious enough about selling to mess with the classifieds. |

so how much for the motor? do you have the title for it? |

Sure makes me feel pretty good about the one I just got off eBay. It's broken, but it is all there...and less than his asking price for the Photoshopped "rollering" chassis. The ad doesn't mention if it has a title...or am I missing it? I'll admit I was tempted to check into it, and still might be, but the ad doesn't share enough info. ...and since it came up, what constitutes a "numbers matching" engine/chassis? |

$1500 for the motor. The title stays with the frame and the frame is days away from being a "chandelier" in my game room. |

"Numbers matching:" The number on the engine corresponds to the number on the frame. A "set" from the factory. I don't recall when American bikes required stamping the frames. Before that, title went with motor. |

Re; Numbers matching: Thanks. I'm more familiar with 4 wheel terms and practices, so pardon the newb-ish question. Mine apparently is NOT a "numbers matching", so now I have to figure out the source/vintage/etc. for the engine that it DID come with...since that's the broken part. New thread pending! |

sd-did you buy the broken crank RS off ebay out of FL? that one had also been popping up for a couple of years. onahog(hank) is right as far as the bits go. not a bad price for the spares in the 3000 range. good thing i'm already scheduled to give Joel the rest of my motorcycle money!! tim |

That Florida bike was worth buying. |

The SN on the RS will not be the same as the VIN on the chassis. They will "match" if the engine SN is the one on the original build sheet for the chassis. |

And someone here will give you that original build sheet number, in due time. Still, the Florida bike was worth buying. |

I would be the current owner of the broken crank RS1200...the one with the hideous blue flame paint scheme. I like flames, but blue on red...nope. Yes, being mechanically fearless and fiscally irresponsible, I made that purchase after watching it get listed multiple times for a variety of prices. I wondered what it might be that kept folks from bidding higher on it and took a chance outside of the eBay world. It sits comfortably in my garage, but looks unhappy. Re; Numbers: Thanks for that info, Dave. I anxiously await any info available and am currently taking my time in disassembling things until I can get some better reference info. Any guidance would be appreciated. Solicitations to higher authorities are in the works. |

The broken tail light lens gets replaced by a circa 1987 thru 1991 Moto Guzzi part, perhaps from a Mille GT. If you get a bad case of "buyer's remorse," let us know . . . . |

Re; "Buyer's remorse": LOL! Not yet! I'll keep you posted. I ordered a new tail light assembly from local my dealer. They located lenses at a couple of other dealers out of state, but I figured I'd spend a couple of extra bucks and support the home team and ordered the whole enchilada. Lord knows I'll need some engine parts so I'm sucking up now! |
