Cityxslicker- I thought you might be interested in this post: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=290431&post=1680495#POST1680495 First time I've seen the name "Griffin" associated with the dirt bike project. |

Thanks for the update. I guess we know what to carve on the headstone now. Damn shame they cant green light it in the 450 super thump category that Roland Sands wants to run in. I would privateer one |

Ah, yes, poor Griffin, I knew you well . . . It was about 80 percent designed when it was killed, the frame and swingarm were done, work was still going on on the downtube/oil-tank and the plastic bodywork. The frame mold was done, and the first test castings on the frame were underway -- the frame was by far the most innovative part of the bike. Rotax was making amazing progress on the engine -- it made more power than a CRF450R everyplace, and would have been far, far more durable. The battery weighed 14 ounces and the electric start system had only about a pound or so weight penalty over a quick-start system. |

Sigh. I watched my neighbor rebuild his CRF0450X (the durable one) after one season of light recreational riding. He checked it after hearing all the horror stories (and seeing the carnage on craiglist) and sure enough the piston was out of spec. It was a lot of work and a lot of money, and not just because I was sitting there in his garage watching him and drinking the beer from his keg. That was probably a 15 beer job over a long weekend... |

15 beers over a whole weekend? Light weight! 15 over maybe an afternoon. Not that I drank a lot |

If TA is at Erik Buell Racing and leading the charge the project will probably succeed, otherwise it probably won't. It did have potential though. Honda reliability has been very good for the last 5 years or so. |
