Some of you "guys" really make me laugh(really you do). You go out and buy a Buell for half of sticker price and then show up here on the BadWeb with all these great ideas on what should be, ought to be, could have been, will be, better be and the list goes on and on. If your Buell experience is not what it should be, do yourself and all the rest of us a favor. Sell it and buy/ride something else. Ride safe, BR. | ||

Wow, I do type like crap. I'm sorry But I do hold out that the bikes now known as Buells will live again, updated and improved as they are integrated into the Harley lineup. Making the Harley store a full line of bikes similar to how BMW and Triumph have recently done and all the Japanese bike lines. I have faith the bikes will be back, but better than ever. With better sales training, and service support. Some cool names and updated design tightened quality standards combined with a smart positive American marketing campaign and the bikes now known as Buells will be everywhere. A fresh start, lets rock and roll. | ||

It's unlikely that HD will ever make anything as sporty as the current crop of Buells. They have said they are going to focus on their "core customers" who they believe to only want custom style bikes. Personally I think it's short-sighted as that customer base is "aging" but their sale of MV Augusta and Buell show they are committed to that route. If any more Buells come along it won't be from Harley, but I hope that EB manages to find some other method to finance more road bikes. I'd never consider owning a Harley (well ask me again in another 20 years) and I've just sold my custom chop and TL1000S to buy some goodies for my 1125R. These may well be the last (and arguably best) roadgoing Buells ever made. I'm still impatient for EBR to open its doors though so I can buy some bits for my new Baby...But I can wait, I know how hard it is to start up your own business! | ||

I love my HD and I love my Buell. I was lusting after an 1125r since they came out, but couldn't afford to add another $12,000 bike to the garage. But I could at the price I got it. Now both of my bikes are dream bikes and plan to ride the hell out of them. Having said that, I don't want my Buell to have an HD badge and vice versa. I think most costumers feel that way as well. When you think HD you think old technology cruisers. Whether that be true or not. I love the simplicity of my Dyna. It's a no BS bike that feels great, runs great and sounds wonderful. And I love the Buell for the same reasons, but it's far more advanced and thought out from a performance standpoint. I think the brand is part of that. From the perception of the buyer, I don't think you can put an HD badge on a high end sport bike and have anyone take it too seriously. Case in point, the VROD. A great bike, far more advanced than any other HD every built, but the niche is very small for it. It's not enough performance-wise for the customers buying metric bikes, and not classic cruiser enough for the typical HD buyer. I really think any high performance HD bike just doesn't have a good solid market. For that reason, I think HDs decision to focus on heritage oriented bikes is a smart one. We'll see if it works. | ||

We have all disagreed on issues, sometimes quite strongly. They are both of impeccable integrity. You are WAY out of line. I don't trust people that jump to the worst possible conclusion about others. It speaks more to their own character than to those they seek to malign. If you had any honor or integrity, you'd apologize sincerely to both Erik and Court for your calumny. The best chance you have of something Buell-ish back is a company like BRP taking on a sport bike direction headed by a guy like Erik. I can't imagine another direction outside of a fresh startup. With the economy the way it is....woof. Harley has tried branching out beyond the normal route a few times and only really hit it with the sportster. Trying to market anything of change in those 'black and chorme' stores would be difficult. I'm not a bagger guy, but wouldn't that group want to have a fully dressed HD with 100HP off the showroom floor? The v-rod motor would be an excellet choice for that mount as the motor is hidden for the most part anyway. I rode a v-rod last year for the first time and just didn't get it. Lots of potential wasted in a low-slung, rough riding, drag knock off? I guess I wasn't HD's target customer group anyway. Kirb | ||

The idea of the "water cooled bagger" has been floating around for a while. If the EPA continues, and they will, to tighten down the restrictions they will have to put one in. HD is doing everything they can to avoid that. As soon as the air cooled V-Twin goes away, what makes HD special/different goes away as well. Then they are like every one else and their market share will go all of a sudden be neck and neck with the metric bikes. | ||

Actually there was one email two days prior to these. That email was introductory in nature and posed no substantive questions. The emails that make any difference are the two posted above. I understand the heritage behind the HD name, but people will buy HD regardless. They have some of the best brand recognition out there. Metric bikes have tried going air-cooled to compete and it didn't work. HD putting out a high HP touring rig would sell. They might have to revamp the cams a little to get some better sound and eat a bit of HP in the process. I guess spending $5k on upgrading your brand new touring rig in order to pass a truck seems odd to me. Being mostly sport touring in my distance rigs, I can never see going down over half in HP and twice in lbs. | ||
