I've been lurking on here for the past year and finally decided to register. I bought an S3T new in 1997. It was cool to have a somewhat exotic bike that not many people had heard of back then. I put over 25k miles on the bike before it started turning into a leaky, rattle trap Harley. No real major repairs or failures though, maybe because the internet wasn't big yet and I never fixed anything unless it was broken. A friend turned me on to Triumphs and they have become my choice for my sport/touring bike.I Never had a recall or warranty claim, just trouble free riding. I always kept up with what Buell was doing. The fan cooled bikes didn't impress me when I rode them, but I always liked the grunt and badass attitude of my S3T. When I saw a '97 S3 on craigslist I half heartedly pursued it. It wasn't selling, typical no-shows and BS artists on CL, so when my turn to see it came, I bought it on the spot. It was an unmolested 1800 mile bike, but it ran like crap from sitting and not being jetted properly. With the help of this site I jetted it up, but it still didn't run as good as my original S3T with a Yost Powertube. I kind of lost interest in it as I have a bunch of different bikes to ride and maintain.I got on this site the other day and came across the post about cleaning the accelerator pump ports. I found the tiny one in the inside bottom of the bowl was clogged. When I got it back together and took it for a ride today all I can say is WOW! I got back that thrill from my original Buell. The front end comes up just by hammering the throttle. I can't wait to go for a good ride, but I think I'm best to wait for the salty roads to clear in the spring. These 13 year old tires are bound to do me in now that the bike is running right so I'll shop around for those this winter. I'm glad I kept my shop manual since I traded the original Buell in at the Triumph dealer. Also found a pair of front pads I never used from before. Anyway thanks for the tips on the site and getting me inspired to get this latest S3 running right. |
