I just bought my 1125R last week and it'll be a couple of months before I actually get to ride it, so it will be a while till I get to actually ride it and find out.

I want to build my own reverse-shift pattern setup and I'm wondering how vulnerable the lever on the shift shaft will be. (Since it will have to stick pretty much straight down.)

Footpeg feelers are the first.

Yep the feelers on the pegs will touch first, then the pegs themselves, and the brake/shift levers are probably next. After that, you are picking it up.

Cool, Thanks for the info.

I'm probably going to have to make some rearsets as well, since I prefer solid-mounted pegs but I'm not too keen on dragging hard parts.

My toes drag first, so slightly higher and to the rear pegs were a first purchase for me.

Take a look at the Cycle Pirates adjustable pegs before you go machining your own. They work really well, IMHO.

Also, make sure and test your configuration... be sure something that won't high side you instantly isn't the first do drag after you make your changes. A couple of buddies and a keen eye will help you lean the bike to the ground in the paddock while you check. Two buddies on the low side of the bike, and don't forget to chock the tires on the high side of the bike so they don't slip while you tip 'er over.

What he's saying is that some aftermarket pipes don't have the best design and will touchdown.

At the risk of sounding like a jerk with 10 posts I don't care to figure out what the heck someone with over 3000 posts is saying in a mystical three letter post. If Barker wants to say something useful then he should just say it.

With the correct technique, you can corner the bike better with less lean. Just throwing it out there.

Seriously, Sorry for the mystical words. I was referring to the D&D slip-on exhaust, notorious for scraping even on the street.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised how hard it is to scrape even the 1 inch drop pegs.

Since it appears you are new to the 1125R game, may I suggest this GP shift kit form one of our fine sponsors:

Absolutely!

But, at some point, given a tight enough corner and a high enough speed, you still drag.

Last year I got Sidi Vortices that have the replaceable aluminum toe piece. My toes are always on the ground. You might think about these.

I have ceramic ones now. The issue is I have something akin to a shock reaction every time I touch -- knee, toe, etc. So I go around the track never touching anything as much as possible!

Sounds like a back injury? Hope you can keep that under control. I have a similar problem. Best of luck.

Jdugger - what track is that? The surface is horrible! So much sealer and repaving. Sorry if that is the closest track to you. The elevation looks nice, but that pavement is just plain sketchy!

Plus - what size boots do you guys wear? I wear 11.5 and don't drag my toes but 3-4 times a track day riding in the expert group. I have the Cycle Pirates pegs and have them about 1.5-2.0 inches further back but at stock height. I guess it does depend on the track and individual corners, camber, etc.

Well, having never touched anything down on my XB12R or the 1125R the first thing that touched down is going to be when you are sliding down the road.
The Remus can on my 1125R has never touched down but after adjusting the spring preload to suit my weight and the damping to suit my riding the bike always looks high at the backend.
The toes of my boots always seem to wear through though after a couple of seasons.

The track is Eagle's Canyon in Slidell, TX.

Look through the pavement and sealer -- the surface is better than it looks. Once you get it out of your head, you don't notice it.

I do have a couple of messed up discs, but I think this issue is much more related to vaginal seizing whenever I touch anything to the pavement in a corner!

Hey Jdugger,
I went to a track day there right after it opened on my Multistrada.I was working over there and staying in Sanger. They were having problems because of all the rain and mud and gravel washing onto the track seeing as the grass hadn't took root yet in most places. That also explains the patches.I liked the track but drug foot pegs and toes a lot on the off camber left hander in the "S" turn on the back side. The guys at Texas Track Day did a great job and got me to knee dragging on my Multi about half way through the day.

I'm easily over far enough to drag a knee, I just don't. When I feel it touch I pull my leg in. I don't care for the sensation.

When it comes unexpectedly, that's when I jump!

I drug all kinds of parts on my X1, would have to de-burr the shifter peg after so it wouldn't tear up my boots so bad.

The XB series gained a lot of clearance over the tubers.
My peg feelers were just barely touching, I didn't even realize I was touching the knee, guess it dosnt faze me anymore. : D

I am still getting acquainted with Peggy Red(1125R) and haven't been on the track yet.Dragging a knee off a Multistrada required me to hang way off the bike.It is very tall and you have to get way over to start dragging things.Still a blast on the track.
