I only know of a police officers Blast that looks better for distance cruising, but aside from his bike, yours is the best I've ever seen - simply terrific looking. since she won't be hitting the corners that hard, with all the luggage and such, for that application the ST66 Pirelli rear in the oversize 140/70 because that rear will last as long as the Pirelli Diablo 110/70 front - then you'll have tires that can eat up some miles and still way out do the Dunlops in performance - boosting her confidence even more, and making her bike as well prepared for distance as a Uly. A Works shock and front spring kit would complement that nicely, and since she isn't racing, you could get her the less expensive Works shock. That is a terrific looking bike, I'm sure she loves it! Nice job. You should do that to another one and see if you can sell it for a profit. I would really like a Blast like that (but I'd rather learn how to do it myself). | ||

Thanks. She is kind of proud of it, I'm never satisfied, but then I'm not done yet. I was going to ask you guys what tires would be better for it, I will take notes. As far as that shock and fork spring deal, that may happen as time progresses. This thing has a long way to go to be completed the way I want it to end up. Next is a filler panel for the top front of the seat/tank area. It will have the plug and a switch for the electrics and a 12V outlet. The plans for the near future include Uly bars with polly heaters, and some forward cruiser pegs. For some reason I get the feeling you guys think the Dunlops suck!  I put that new one on the front a couple of months ago because the original was shot, then it got flat, and it was the only tire that fit that I could find in town that day. The rear is nearly used up so I will start there. Man, this thing ought to really handle with some real tires, I have done a lot of peg dragging as it is. Such a fun bike. I have a few how to pics from the start of the seat mounting, and I will get some of the completed mount together hopefully this weekend, as I have to take it back apart for painting the metal work. I will post them when I can. We are going to ride the Cherohala tomorrow, my in-laws on their new Goldwing trike, I will be on my Uly, and the wife gets to do her first road trip on Blastulys(since the latest mods). Dude, have fun on the Cherohala, that's probably my favorite road, maybe more so than the Dragon. Which direction are you doing it? I like TN to NC better than NC to TN. Same road, but I think it feels different depending on which side you start on. | ||

Today was GREAT! This is the first time my wife made it past 60 miles without commenting on how bad her butt hurt while limping away. I think the longest one day ride before was like 120 miles and many complaints of discomfort. Today 220 miles and still not a word when we pulled in the driveway. I am amazed, and very happy about this. what seat do you have on the uly blast? Sorry, I have to correct you on that, it is a "Blastulys"!  The seat is my Uly's 06 low. The one with the gel bottom pad and slide-able mesh type front cover(the black part). I also have the 06 stock seat. I made the brackets so that the seats will clip off just like it does on the Uly. They are interchangeable and any Uly seat will fit it. We got waylaid on the Cherohala ride(some 80 year olds think 200+ miles is enough in a day  and didn't want to tough out the extra eighty miles). We did have perfect weather and fall colors with little traffic. We did the Foothills Parkway South of Maryville Tn. and the Dragon, 28 to Cherokee, then touched on the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and over Newfound Gap. A most excellent and scenic day as could be had! First ever trip to the Dragon for my Goldwing trike riding in-laws(at 80 that is great!). The second pass for my wife, and the first time(of countless trips) I ever got to look at the scenery along the 318 turns and 11 miles!  I got to say, wholly crap, it is not only a beautiful ride, but it exposed to me why some people who fall off have a bad day! Those are a lot of deep valleys, or would they be crevasses? And as you see - never ending! Well yeah, and now that the ride is what I knew it could be, it has gained value in doing the additional projects. I did not want to expend a lot of effort and not have her use it or like the mods. I loaned her my heated jacket. After plugging that in for a while this morning at 46F she was smiling(damn, now that is on the list). After riding home in the dark for the last thirty miles, its antique round headlight will likely be getting replaced by Uly lights, oh the list is growing.....but I can surely do a lot for less than a quarter of the cost of a new bike, and those other ones don't fit her anyways. | ||

There is something about that church pew like Ulysses seat. I think it can be reproduced on the Blast with a 2" thick piece of Oak. Having all that foam on the Blast seat wedge up into your butt crack is no fun on a long ride. I remember many years ago, taking a reaccuring trip in a car with Reccarro seats. They were strangely stiff when I first got into it, but after the end of the trip I simply stepped up out of the car and realized my back and legs were not all cramped up like other times. The Ulysses seat is just like that stiff. | ||

Oh yeah - in case you didn't take the subtle hint - the Dunlops do suck! The follow raingroves or any street grove, are slickery on road paint, have lousy grip and beside the Kenda are the most dangerous tire you could have on a Blast. HD did no one a favor with that tire. Your next mod - if you want her to safely enjoy her riding experience would be to ditch the Dunlops in favor of most anything else but Kenda - they suck that bad! EZ | ||

Sorry again folks! We were out riding today, she got in another happy 160 miles! I don't know at this point when I will get to finish it! There is some bare steel involved that must be done before it hits any road salt! Work on the bike.....passed over by riding! Who woulda thought that would happen?  | ||

Awsome, the seat mods might just work with the xb swing arm setup that Mat (Loose1) did for the superblastard. Which seat are you using? The 06 low? | ||

Which seat are you using? The 06 low? Yes, and it can be interchanged with any Uly seat. I will get more pics of the rest of the seat mount asap. As long as you are ready to make major changes to the tail and tail light mounting the Uly seat set up can work on any Blast frame, but there is a lot more that I need to show. | ||

    I just did 30 miles on this thing. I need to get a set of Uly bars and finish this mess. I can see easily riding as far as I wanted to with the tall seat. I just don't know why no one puts an effort into making a small bike comfortable, sure argue price, what could it cost, $150 more to manufacture it with a good seat? | ||

Hey everyone. Just got done with an 8in tail chop, recovered my seat with brown gator vinyl, and painted the whole bike with BBQ paint. Tell me what you think...cuz I'm in love !!!      | ||

Here are more of the seat....took about 2 hours and the vinyl was $15 a yard!....So I used my staple gun, some spray adhesive, and my good ol' recliner..and VOILA!  | ||

nice. i think i will pull apart my bike and paint the frame too. Did you pull apart the biek to paint the frame or mask off sections? was neck of the frame painted as well? | ||

Thanks EZ!! To Crackhead: All I did was take the seat off, take the tail section off, gas tank, and front fender. That will expose plenty enough frame to paint. I just draped wraps on anything I didn't want black...which wasnt much really. Just make sure and clean everything before you spray it, a little dirt/residue will wrinkle that paint in a heartbeat.
