What determined whether an XB12X got what many of you refer to as the "Big Bird" front end treatment from the factory or the smallish, almost not there low profile front fender. My '07 (mfd Sept 06) has the latter but is an XB12X. Did it also come with the 43mm Showa front end or the 47mm front end. I ask as I think the 2009 Uly's had 43's on the XT and 47's on the X. Was that new for that M.Y.? Just things that keep me awake at 11:32pm on a Sunday where my overnight low of 27 might approach some of yous guys high for tomorrow. |

Woah, slow down there! I can't figure out what this thread is about! Anyway, the 06 and 07 X/XP are 43mm, 08-10 are 47 All XT years are 43mm. |

The X got 47mm forks for the '08 model year. '06 and '07 were 43mm. Buell website lists '09 XT having 43mm. As for the front fender, if its colored anything but gray and hugs the front tire it is probably an XT front fender. The stock X is 2 piece gray with the "beak" mounted to the lower fork clamp. |

Sorry...this was in reference to the types of front fenders that came on Ulys thru the years. In searching the archives, I saw where some referred to the high fender as looking like "Big Bird". Then, in the midst of that ramble, I got to wondering what size forks came on the X's vs the XT's prior to 2009. |

The XB12X comes with the high, "Big Bird" fender and the XB12XT comes with the "barely there" low fender. Simple! If you want, you can interchange them, but that's the way they come as stock. Fork leg diameter doesn't come into it, but the X has longer legs |

My impetus to ask came from the fact that my 07 (mfd 9/06) says "XB12X" on the bike as well as all of the legal docs but I was curious to determine if maybe the prev owner had swapped fenders or something. It was purely a garage floor curiosity as I stood around the thing after working on it this past weekend. |

Yep probably swapped. Some wackjobs like the stupid XB fender, which can't even correctly protect the extra long X forks. Take some photos, we could tell you everything your previous owner altered. |

I object to being called a "wackjob" It could be worse, I could own a translucent blue Buell

Some whackjobs go the other way and take a perfectly good barely there fender off a lightning and add the ULY Beak And to up the ante, she started translucent blue.... she is valencia orange now. Pic in profile. (yes its a XB9SX; but I rides her like a ULY) |

That bike looks confused, XT fender, XT suspension, XT lights, but X beak and X tires. A touch of FAG with the heat shield too |

It's the first version of the heat shield, installed long before the pirate black one was ever available. Rare model prototype XB12XT-X. Has since been upgraded to homophobic defense mode with the black shield and comfort kit, bigger Pelicans, Optronics driving lights and most of the chrome bolts and screws are now black (as in kiss those torx good-bye). Oh, and the classy stickers are gone too. (Message edited by itileman on January 05, 2010) |
