Yes have number 3 of 100 signed by Erik himself. Ordered online during the lunch break at the dealer show within 30 minutes on the first day they were announced. Will keep it forever. ... Terry |

Great loyalty and love of the bike! As a new Uly owner and immediate orphan I am curious how you senior owners would rate your support value in dealer support and BWB support. What percentage of your longterm satisfaction and love of the bike came from having dealer support (which is waning for us now) and what percentage was BWB's value to happy ownership? See what I mean? Thanks. |

I just use the dealer to order parts from since the warranty is over. Fortunately the ULY has been very very good to me. Most parts I put on the ULY are just farkles these days. Haven't ridden mine since the snow hit us back in November. Way below zero last night and no end in sight for both snow and frigid temps. |

quote:I bought mine in late 2006. 30K miles, which is low for me but I've been busy. Fan failure led to overcooked clutch and it now has a Barnett. When the clutch failed, the dealer took off the top ends to check for damage. None found, but the mechanic cross-threaded the rear plug and they had to tap the threads. Months later the rear head cracked (at the plug hole) when I was 800 miles into Baja. (100 bucks got it into a semi trailer to Tijuana.) New engine from Buell after some arm-twisting. I still love the thing, mostly because it will take me places that I've never been--like on two trips through Baja.
Wow, that is quite a saga. Glad things eventually worked out and you still love the bike (me, too). I'm curious that a "fan failure" affected the clutch? What was the reasoning there? --Doc |

I'am still enjoying my 06, bought in 05 specifically for a trip to Alaska to celebrate retirement. It had some teething pains but what bike doesn't. It puts a smile on my mug every time I throw a leg over it. I was saddened when I heard that Buell was out of business, and I hope that Erik can bounce back in time.It would be great if he could hook up with someone other than HD.

"I'm curious that a "fan failure" affected the clutch? What was the reasoning there?" Fan failed over time, running sporadically & slowly. Rear cylinder overheated. Oil overheated. Engine seal failed, letting too much oil into the clutch housing. Clutch started slipping, overheating the clutch plates. It was discovered when changing the (VERY nasty) clutch oil at the 5K service. I should have noticed it earlier but since the bike was new to me I didn't realize the fan was supposed to act differently. BTW, I'm using a different dealer now and that's a strong reason why I keep the Uly. They're true Buell supporters. |

I'm still here. Bought my '06 Ulysses in Sep. 2005. Only 15k miles, but that's because I spend more time riding my '04 CRF250X than I do my Uly. The Uly is still a fine bike. Did 250 miles today. (Message edited by jim_sb on January 18, 2010) |

Bought my '06 in Sept. 2005. Traded with Paintshaker for his XB12R after Buelltoberfest this past October. Bought an 1125R in November at fire sale price. Still check in here and read the BB&D threads. |

Eulysses-Good question, but perhaps a new post might get more responses. |

Eulysses, In the fading light of Buell in the dealerships, I see the same amount of respect and desire to have Buells in their stores as before. Usually you will see one or two individuals in a dealership whom really care, and a large degree of sales and service guys who will mutter under their breath something about "it should have happened a long time ago". |

Thanks. I guess I am looking for some hope forward. You older Uly pioneers dealt with mechanical issues...and because the dealer role will be fading on us...what percentage of support for ownership came from dealer support vs BWB? There is a lot of warmth toward Uly ownership and is that due to quality dealer relationship or BWB to handle the negatives? Besides just being a great design. From my vantage point of a new Uly owner...I can see BWB as being key to enjoying this fine machine...and without BWB at this point in history...I would probably move away from ownership. |

I don't know what I would be riding without BadWeB. My Uly had some "can't seem to ever make it happen" issues that the dealer's folks would never listen to 'how' to make it do it. They would fire it up in a stall telling me that it would not do the described problem that only happens at 70+ mph on a warm day on a long up hill load. This was/is common. It does not fix the problem and they are happy to keep the bike for three weeks at at time to make you give up. I mean, what the hell, it still runs, right? Intermittent problems have abounded on my machine. Those problems, usually affecting a small number of bikes, would be uncovered here on this forum. While under warranty I could take the bike and a list of what and how to fix it to them, or just fix it myself. With some tools and a little mechanical ability you can fix nearly anything.....if you know what and how to fix it. I have been helped through many problems here, and have tried to give back when I can. I would probably have bailed on the bike before it's second year with out the help and comradeship found here. And there is so much more. I have friends all over the country and even some from all over the planet because of BadWeB. Riding buddies abound, and skilled ones at that. Very few squids, and those weed themselves out. Rides, get togethers, Homecoming's, camp outings, riding overnight stays, race trips, hanging out with the guys who designed and built the bikes, and help with nearly anything (including sacrificial parts). From my perspective, one of the best groups of people in the world. I'm giving it BadWeB (as Blake says; It is Bad We B) 99.98% and Dealer support half of the rest. .01% for error. |
