If you had to choose and if you don't intend to ride >200 miles all winter, is it better to change the oil right before, or right after winter? |

Both is best, but if I had to choose, it would be before winter. If you have any moisture in your oil, it will settle in one spot and will eventually begin to corrode whatever it's in contact with. Take apart any old motor thats been sitting for a while and you will see signs of this. Same goes for fork oil, brake fluid, primary oil, and gas. |

I do spring. I figure during summer riding all the condensation gets a chance to boil out. Since air cooled motors take forever to warm up when it is cold, its going to have more condensation problems during the winter. I do take a couple short rides during the winter so I figure I will drain all that gook out in the spring. Same with my diesel truck, I change it once per year. I drive less then 10,000 miles a year, it gets used mostly for towing the RV, the rest are short trips where it hardly gets warmed up. I change it at the start of towing season. |
