what slaughter said 100% get a good data system. That is something thats golden. run daul widebands and egt sensors to get the full details. then and even then use old school test the old check the plugs. once the map is made on the dynp you are 3/4 done. yes only 3/4 thats what I call a starter map. you will need to adjust the map to the rider on the bike on the track. this gets the fuel set one step better. I use the Innovate equipment for data valuations. We did this on a totally stock Buell xb 12 this season belt drive and all. we did win the N. forida Twins over all points in two classes . With this said we must be doing something right. we are also leaving on O2 correction. we just tell it the paramiter zone to run at. we set our fuel to mid field the fuel at 13.6 and WOT fuel at 13.2. Idle fuel is set to scal to tepm correction but end up hot at 14.0 afr. with a good data logging system you should get the tune done within aprox 2 hrs. you can also use some wireless links and ect to adjust live if needed. between the bikes ECM and the PC. or one step further you can use a micro Pc that has a wireless card. and link to it from another pc and adjust as the bike rides. If you was to have a wireless pc on the bike the actual tuner can see all data as the bike is on the track live and make changes to the fuel map and the timing table with out any run switch movement. some changes require the engine to be toggled off and on some dont. this will get the map perfect just before the race. plus its a simple device to de-attach quickly to make the bike legal for the race. you cant have live wire tuning active during the race. like others said It requires a lot of work and is not cheap getting the proper tools to get the tune correct. Just dont fall for a map made on one bike fits all bike schema. check maps every race day for accuracy. log if possible all race data in the ecm. history and data is key to know what the bike is doing in what weather and ect conditions. even at grass roots (our crabgrass level) we log and keep all info. feel free to Pm me any questions on our setup. I will tell you what we did and why we did it. These maps are not hard to make. mike |

Xoptimizedrsx, What engine management system are you using? If it is the stock system, do the innovate sensors have a simulated narrow band output to work with the ECM's O2 sensor inputs? I am just curious how you are targeting specific air/fuel ratios other than stoich while in closed loop. |

I don't know, I don't work for BMW. They've built hundreds already, if not the 1,000 required. Take a look at this photo of the production line back in February and the row of bikes. Now there is some scientific deduction...BMW lined up 9 bikes for a press photo....so now we deduce that they must have produced hundreds already. Gotta do better than that. I agree that a great number of SR-whatevers will be sold, but I have to chuckle at the logic above. And it's one freaking ugly bike to boot... |

You need to take off your shoes to count higher than 9 because there are more than 9 bikes in that photo. WSBK officials are satisfied that BMW has built enough bikes to date. But, since BMW didn't send you proof, there is a giant conspiracy. You still waiting for Obama to send you his birth certificate?} |

Diablo is correct, I counted ten in the photo. Brian |

I am using Innovate equipment on the front and rear. you can feed the wide band data directly into the ecm. once you do a few changes to the ecm. this allows a direct fuel to O2 value conversion. much better than the NB setup. with the Lc1 and the xd16 you can target any ratio you want. just as you can change the target value in the ecm. their is a few ways to do it ending with the same result. mike |

You need to take off your shoes to count higher than 9 because there are more than 9 bikes in that photo. Haha...so if there are 10 pictured, does that automatically equate to production of hundreds? I don't understand the logic. BTW, if we are splitting hairs here, a person doesn't need to use his feet to count until it reaches 11. But I get your drift... |

BTW, if we are splitting hairs here, a person doesn't need to use his feet to count until it reaches 11. But I get your drift... No, but the fact they produced at least 11 way back when that picture was taken about 9 months ago, and they also showed a picture of a worker on a production line putting one together means they were ready to make lots of production bikes. Factories don't keep production lines idle without a very good reason. Simple logic says since they had the capability to produce production bikes 9 months ago, and they have many bikes pre-ordered with deposits, and press reports say they have produced more than 300 bikes for the test fleet, and the obligation to WSBK to produce 1000 units before Dec 30, 2009, and that they are a large company with deep pockets, that they have produced at least 1,000 production bikes without me having to see the serial #s of every one.} |

And those 300 test bikes were given to employees to ride to destruction, then ALL taken back, evaluated and destroyed....... Rocket |

Actually, Nate Kern had one early in the season, he was doing T&E for himself (hoping there is budget for him to race it next year). He also went to a bunch of places and displayed it along with some of the other race bikes he's ridden for them and talked up the brand (like a good factory rider should). He told me (aside from it being the best bike he'd ever ridden) that in July, it was the only one in the US. However they were sending one to the West Coast as well for another one of their 'name' racers. I'll bet BMW has built more then the required amount by now and is setting up the distribution and taking orders and all that good stuff. Face it, if they go AMA next year (ok, tomorrow) they probably have at least 20 in the race garage right now (figure two riders with three bikes each plus display and homoligation versions). I'm sure they are starting to pile up at the shipping depots as well. They have the numbers and are producing all that are ordered on top of that. Who wouldn't? |
