I'm sure this has been discussed at one time or the other and I did a search that didn't yield the results that I was looking for, so here goes. I'm trying to get input for a new seat on an 09 SS. I'm 5'10" 185 and I'm looking for something that's a little narrower up front. I sat on a Uly and it seemed more narrow up front where I want it to be. I'm just trying to gain info from everyone's experiences with their seat, pros and cons. (Message edited by lancruza on December 27, 2009) |

You might want to try the solo seat...it's more narrow up front. I found the stock seat on the Ss to be very uncomfortable after 45 minutes...so far the solo seat is much better! I also have a Baldwin seat coming for riding two-up (UPS should be dropping it off Tuesday!), I doubt it's more narrow up front, but it is custom made to me (and my wife) so should be a perfect fit... |

I bought the 1" lower touring seat since I am only a 30" inseam and pretty tippy-toe on the Ss. It takes some breaking in as it's a pretty firm foam. However, much to my surprise I can't tell any difference in my reach to the ground from the stock seat. If I had to do it again I'd send my stock seat to Sargent's for a cut-down and rebuild with their foam. (Message edited by newxb12Ss on December 28, 2009) |

That's a good point about seat height...the solo seat is a little taller than the stock seat. It's hard for me to notice any of the seat heights...I flat foot and stand about 6 inches above any of the seats I've ridden (38" inseam)... |

Sounds like you need a BMW to keep from getting folded up like a gum wrapper. |

Newxb12ss, you said the seat didn't improve your reach to the ground. Does that mean it also doesn't get you closer to the pegs and fold your legs up more, or is it the shape of the seat possibly being wider that affects the reach? I can easily flat foot my '06 but would like a better seat without going lower in seat height. -Patrick |

Here's a peak at the Baldwin seat I have coming...UPS says they are delivering tomorrow so should have pics of it on the bike soon. It is completely custom to me, and takes a corbin type backrest for the passenger.

I have a TT with the solo seat and I'm on my tip toe's with it. I bought a stock seat thinking it would be lower.... no luck. I wish they had a seat like the Scg seat that would fit. |

There is a good post here on a custom SS touring seat- http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=32777&post=1057014#POST1057014 Alot of posts show about taking foam off the top of the seat but im more interested in seat width. Anyone actually narrowed there seat? Did you guys remove just foam or plastic as well? |
